My wife has a college friend in Bakersfield. We went to visit her after our cruise docked in San Pedro. Spent a couple of days. I for the life of me can't figure out why one would want to live there. High cost of living (now), medical care is marginal. fog in winter, and hotter than blazes in the summertime.

Yea-you can get fresh oranges......

That's borderline dystopian. I know why I stay within a few miles of the ocean when possible. Got a nice breeze and a bit fog going. Sunshine. Very pleasant at 63°F today. Inland is not so nice.

@Malo83, it's gonna be hot out our way too, and we're just 11 miles from the coast. Notice how much more we cool at night compared to you. Fortunately we have enough tree canopy and insulation we won't have to run the AC until day 3 or 4. The "bones" of the house got hot at that point.

I am not allowed to post a copyrighted weather chart but here is local data:

62°F feels like 62°F
day high 79°F, low 56°F tonight
my hygrometer says 38%
wind 3 mph gusts
sunny with wisps of misty fog blowing on from the sea

blood type B negative - kidding!

You coming over for dinner? Meet and play with Cuddles. Right now I'm actually in the city. Its ten degrees warmer here but still nice at 72°.
Not throwing stones @vavavroom, but did you mean The City? To you out of towners, NEVER EVER call it "Frisco"!!!!! It's The City, and in caps!

I used to work on the floor where the arrow is pointing. We had the entire floor. I was up there during the Loma Prieta earthquake. I had the pleasure of ducking and covering with one of my very attractive female colleagues, Michelle, our bodies wrapped around each other. That got our heart rates up. She was gasping in my face. Stop with the dirty mind stuff! :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

DANG!!!!!! You must be one VERY happy man!!! You know, of course, that beyond the shade and protection all those trees provide, THEY ALSO MAKE YOU HAPPY! https://www.google.com/search?q=why...HmAMAiAYBkAYIkgcBMqAHkQo&sclient=gws-wiz-serp

"There is a raft of scientific research which shows that trees calm us down and lift us up: they both soothe our minds and make us feel positive emotions such as awe, serenity, joy and gratitude. Studies show that walking in trees will switch off the stress response, swap the cortisol and adrenalin production for happy hormones such as oxytocin and serotonin."

Let me just say, I hope I never have to leave it.

FWIW, aside from the dullish green trees on the far left side of the picture (the Valley Oaks), I did all the landscaping, literally planting every shrub and tree other than those Valley Oaks. It took me 5 years to do it. I designed everything and literally dug every hole, put in all the irrigation, laid all the sod, and moved thousands of wheel barrow loads of dirt, compost, and decomposed granite.

I enjoy living where I live and really can't complain about the weather. This is considered abnormally hot for us. If I ever moved I would miss my friends deeply.
