hot and cold gauge went up !

drove about 10 mins yesterday and i pulled in to get some fuel, when i left, i had to hammer on the gas to get back out on the hiway, rpm's were prob around 3500-4000, then i noticed my c/h gauge went up to about 2/3 of the way up and then back down to normal. the gauge stayed at 2/3 up for only 5 seconds ! my temp has been normal ever since, is this something to worry about or is this normal? (99 4runner with 144k)

Probably just heated up the motor faster than the thermostat could respond. Opened up and flooded the motor with very cold uncirculated coolant.

It may be a sender starting to go bad.If you think that it is actually getting hot,you may need to get it checked but it sounds more like the gauge may have had a problem,especially if this happened within seconds.

You might keep an eye on it and see what it does,it may not do it again.
