I went to earls last night and ordered my meal and a coffee
Went to take a sip and wow, that was the most... weak..watered down cup of coffee I have ever had.
I waited then ordered another, still the same..
I'll write them a letter.

I hear ya. The only way I can get a good cup o' joe is to grind my own from varietal whole beans at home and brew it myself. Most places here (especially the ubiquitous Starbucks) don't hold up to my requirements.

I'm not into too fancy a cup of coffee. It's really hard to get a conventional cup of coffee at Starbucks. I do have a bean grinder ..and for something unconventional that my wife likes on the rare occasion ..I keep the coffee beans(Hazelnut usually) in the freezer. Off the shelf coffee ..it's Maxwellhouse if it's on sale ...otherwise I settle for Folger's since it's typically $2 cheaper for the big container.

Lousy coffee isn't acceptable at any time unless it's free.

I've been experimenting with various esspresso grinds recenlty, Cafe Bustello, Pilon, Cafe la Lave, Lavazza... and honestly, I can't tell much difference between them. Probably has to do with my cheap espresso machine that can't extract the full flavor out of them anyway.

My perennial favorite is Eight O'Clock Coffee in the red bag. I buy it whole bean and grind it myself. As long as you're using enough beans, it always comes out great. I've noticed it doesn't seem to do well in my french press, but it's unbeatable for my auto-drip pot.

I agree Matt, Eight O'Clock regular whole bean is good & very good for the price. It's $3.49/bag at Target.

I don't care for any French Roast, Italian Roast, etc. as it's just burnt coffee to me.

Dr No,
Was it watered down with skim milk

.

Seemed like it was watered down with water.
Personally I put whipping cream in my coffee.

Jamaican Blue Mountain is probably my favorite, but it's something I give myself as a treat rather than every day. I like Starbucks, but only if I can brew it at home. They brew the coffee in the stores far too strong, and use some kind of italian or french instead of a lighter roast...my taste buds nor my stomach can take it. My sister calls them "Charbucks" and she's not far off.

I use heavy whipping cream in my coffee. I tend to like my cup "rich" ..but, in reality, it's hot coffee ice cream/frape~ - blond and sweat - like my wife used to be

(she's still blond w/o a bottle)

If like my blond, give it time until you get her cold and bitter...

Can't stant burnt roast myslf; medium, medium-dark roasts for me. Eight O'Clock 100% Colombian is well balanced and doesn't hurt the pocket either.

I was at a hotel out west once where they ran out of coffee and just poured another carafe of water through the used grounds.

Looked more like tea.

I don't know how anyone drinks coffee black without sweetener.

Just like you drink any other cup of coffee!

What's that they say about once you go black....

True for me. I gag at the thought of creme or sweetener in my coffee.

"Charbucks". I can't agree more.

MY fave is Kona coffee if I can find it.

There is nothing worse than coffee that has sat too long. My wife, mistakenly, made coffee the other day thinking the machine was clean and ready to go. Wrong. It still had a couple of cups of old coffee remaining in its built-in tank. I took a sip of the resulting mix and let one-hellava roar out of me. It was bloddy horrible.

I don't know where the coffee comes from that my employer supplies in the break room (if it IS indeed coffee) but it's wretched. The little bags say "Cory Collection, Signature Blend, distributed by Aramark". It is FOUL.

We finally banded together in my department and bought our own pot and supply our own coffee. My boss brings Gevalia, which is pretty good most of the time. I usually go to Starbucks or to my favorite 'local coffee' spot, White Rock Coffee and buy whole beans and grind it myself. Sometimes when I'm in a hurry or desperate, I buy the bulk coffee from Walmart (cant remember the brand) and grind it in their machine, and it's actually pretty good.
