I like the sound and loudness of Hella Supertones, but... more stuff is exposed, and tends to get rusted away....

What say you? I find the Toyota trumpet horns to be too wimpy

I can barely hear my trumpets inside the car, going to check out the hellas aswell. they're mounted in a position where they won't get water spray anyway

Really?...cause the ones (trumpet type) on my '05 4runner are pretty loud. In fact, the are two on the 4runner that make a very loud dual tone...sorta like the old American cars from Buick and Cadillac. I even got a pair from the salvage yard from wreck 4Runner and wired them into my '08 Sorento which had the disc type horns. Those made more of higher pitched 'beep' sound than the loud 'honk' sound of the 4Runner horns.

So, now my Sorento has 'horn attitude'. Before it was like...excuse me, pardon me, hey....now it is more like GET OUTTA MY WAY, UP YOURS, MOVE IT OR LOSE IT!

Properly designed trumpets are likely more efficient than an open diaphragm, but that’s only if there’s any actual engineering behind the design. Trumpet shape and curvature also can highly influence the sound between shrill, middy and deeper bodied.

my favorite is one that doesn’t sound good. I had a mismatch grouping of a single oem, one I found on the curb, a Valentine’s Day gift from my wife, and an ooga horn. It wasn’t loud, but sounded like vomit in a tin can. It absolutely got attention without being loud.

Those may be hard to find...at least at a salvage yard...the one local to me, all those horns have been 'harvested'.
Finding all 4 notes can be tricky... I believe the notes were A, C, D, and F. Conveniently enough, GM stamped the note right on the horn itself. From what I've seen, almost all of the 90's GM vehicles use some combination of those 4 notes. Lower end cars had dual note horns, many of the Buick's got a 3 note setup, and Cadillac's got the 4 note.

How interesting. That’s a D minor 7 chord, 2nd triad. The D, F and A are the D chord in minor key. The C is the 7th. The simplest arrangement would be D F A C on a piano, but they drop the A and C below, so A C D F.

For a Toyota, Honda or Nissan product, before escalating to Hella Super High-Tones, horns off a Lexus/Acura/Infiniti are a “drop-in” upgrade with a more American/European sounding tone.

$20 From amazon for the dual trumpets from Hella

Add $8 for the harness

and maybe a buck or 2 for some ring terminals.

Still a lot cheaper than the dealership price, other than scouring junkyards.

Yes, I could have bought the Toyota-specific ones, but I'd try to see if I like some blue peeking through the grille, like the hybrid blue trim badge.

I had a 1995 Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham a few years ago that I’ve since sold. That car had its own, unique horn tone that was unlike any of the other cars I had. I never looked to see if it was dual, three or four tones. If you can get that setup, they are the best, elegant sounds. 😁

My Charger has dual tone horns, and the agency that owned it before me unplugged the lower note horn for whatever reason. Not cut and removed, just unplugged. My horn sounded cheap for a while until I found that wire and plugged it back in. Much better, but the Cadillac horn is still better. 😎

One busted knuckle later, hella compact trumpets are in and sounds more substantial than the stock horns

Racheting combo wrenches makes life easy
