Honeywell Security System Help

We have been living in this for almost 5 years and it came equipped with security system and I never used or paid any attention to it.

Out of the blue, other night alarm on security system went off in the middle of night and I somehow turned it off.

Now I can see a 'Fault' on the display, as well as a 'red' light blinking on the side.

Few questions:

1- I never thought of using a security system without a service, can I still use it without a service? It has motion sensor and other sensors on every window.

2- It seems like battery is low, how expensive is it to replace? If I can use this security system, I'll replace the battery.

3- Does anyone know what model is it? Then I can download the manual for it.

The real workings of a system like that isn't the control panel, there is a central box, about a foot square, in a basement or closet or somewhere. That box probably has a sticker with the name of the company it was subscribed with.

How can I find that box? I thought, honeywell is the main box, since it has option to arm/engage the alarm? I can see stickers of ADT and based my findings, ADT seems like a ripoff.

If it has a box it will be in the basement or utility room and will have power and the phone connected to it. Maybe a black SLA battery.

It might have everthing in the unit your picture shows. Might have wired or wireless sensors depending upon the age.

But there are codes beyond the arming code to program it. You will probably never get those codes from whoever installed it.

If you want an alarm, get a SimpliSafe.

I've had my simplisafe for about 3 or 4 years now. Works great. Very fast response from the call center the few times we accidentally set it off. I mean like 20 seconds after the alarm goes off my phone is ringing to see if everything is ok. I pay $25 a month for monitoring and texts whenever my garage doors are opened and the alarm is set or turned off.

I think, there's a battery and everything in the pict which shows AC and light(behind the cover). Other sensors are connected wirelessly. I think, it's circa 2005-2008, maybe? I can enter the code on the code and engage/arm or turn it off.

That fault is usually one of the window/door sensors. If they're wireless, then you're probably way overdue for battery replacement in all of them. Fair warning-the batteries they use in those sensors are expensive.

It may also be that one of the sensors on a door or window has failed-they're just magnetic contact switches so you can test them with your meter and find out. The sensors will also give a fault if they've been tampered with.

Your best best is to ask on one of the many security system discussion forums that are available. Those guys can identify it, point you to an operator manual, and help you troubleshoot it.

If that system has a control box, the box will look similar to this one. If you want to replace the backup battery located in the control box, they're fairly inexpensive. If your system has a control box with a backup battery, it will throw a "low battery" message on the control panel.

And yes, they can be used without a subscription service.

You are so right, they used to have lights in them(sensors), but now batteries are gone, I think. No more light or anything.

I don't think there's a separate control panel, besides the one I mentioned. Now question, can you please suggest few of those security forums? Where people are not douches

Open the sensors up and see which battery they take. The motion sensors may take a different battery than door/window open sensors, so check each type of sensor for the battery type. There's probably a small phillips screw that holds the cover on each sensor. Once you know which batteries you need for the sensors, you can search for them on the internet and get an idea of the cost.

You might be able to get a model number from the control panel, or search Honeywell security control panel images to narrow it down. Then you can probably locate an operators manual. There are usually two menu "sets" in a system; one for the homeowner to set a few options, and one for the installer to do the setup.

I can't tell you which forums are "douche" free. Search for a few, read a few posts, and you can determine that for yourself.
