Honda owner's manual states Honda Long Life Coolant Type 2.

Some people state to use Honda brand coolant ONLY in Honda cooling systems.

Does anyone have any thoughts?

Thanks

I haven't used Honda brand coolant in either of my (current) Honda vehicles for many hundreds of thousands of miles. (Or any of my previous ones)

Any of the 'blue' aftermarket ones that are blended for Honda's will be just fine. I usually use Zerex these days.

OK, I accidentally spilled some of the coolant from the overflow bottle on my 2026 Ridgeline and wanted to top it off.

Many folks over of ROC say to use Honda fluids only.

I priced a gallon of 50/50 coolant and it was about $22 a gal and the Supertech is $11 a gal. I wonder if there is any difference in the two?

There aren't a whole lot of coolant manufacturers, I'm sure someone knows who makes it, but I would use it without hesitation.

Quick google says Peak (Old World Industries) is the manufacturer according to the SDS I was able to find.

Not sure why they would be so dead set against using anything but Honda. People have been using aftermarket replacements for years and I never hear of plugged up heater cores or radiators.

Leaking waterpumps I would also consider a non-issue. You replace them every 100k anyways, so if the coolant doesn't eat the seal out of it in that mileage, why worry.

According to the folks over there every fluid must be Honda. Gear oil, rear diff (DPF II), transmission (type 3.1), brake fluid. Now the transmission and rear diff fluid is probably yes as there aren't really any aftermarket choices.

Then go to Napa or Canadian Tire

If you prefer, Canadian Tire also has concentrate :)

Napa has Zerex Asian Blue in 50/50 but not the concetrate
You can also order the concentrate direct from Valvoline/Zerex.

GSCJR is in Canada. Is that offer available up there? It doesn't seem to be listed on Valvoline's Canadian site

Another example, Valvoline doesn't sell Zerex Asian Green in Canada (not relevant to him, but could be relevant to other Canadians that have a car that would use Zerex Green down here).

Ahh, yea dunno about that. You know us Americans, thinking the world revolves around us. :)

Any of the Asian blue formulas should work fine, although I’ve read something about the Prestone Asian blue being slightly different/not as good.

We have 3 Hondas and I’ve topped them all off with both Peak and Zerex Asian blue. My 1997 Accord (which originally had the discontinued green Honda Type 1) now has a mix of OEM Subaru, Zerex and Peak Asian blue coolants in it. They are all chemically the same or close enough to be compatible.

I called the local Honda dealer and they want $22 a gallon for Type 2 coolant. Is it any different than the Supertech for $11?
Running Supertech Blue in my CRV, S2000 and Nissan Juke. No issues that I know of. It's been maybe 2 years since I committed? I was going to use Nissan coolant in them all since it's around $18 premixed but Supertech is just so easy to get and cheaper. Honda is overpricing a lot of their parts, especially my local dealer.

You replace waterpumps at 100k? I thought that was only a BMW thing.
