Honda Taffeta white care (single stage)......

There is a lot of confusion about this color, it was one of the last single stage paints Honda used.
Some sheets show it as base/clear if it comes from one plant and single if it comes from another.

Just stop by a body shop or auto body supply store and ask them to look at it, they will be able to tell right away. I hope its single stage then at least you can do something to keep it reasonably well.

What bothers me is that given how meticulous you have been with your previous Accord, why did you miss this part of the new car? You should have had seller fix/buff the portion before taking the delivery.

I Agree it would be unusual for a 2012 to use this but who knows, they may well have switched to clearing it at some point, the San Marino red doesn't seem to be offered in 2012 models so the data sheet might be old.



I can't speak for the OP's specific car, but I know for a fact that the '09 Civic Taffeta White is clear coated.

It's weird that they would go back to single stage years later.

I have a 2010 Civic in taffeta white and I know it's base/clear. I know this because it was repainted after an accident by my father who has his own body shop.

Try polishing it and see how it turns out. It might just be scratched/swirled up. Also post some pics out in the sun.

The last Taffeta White Accord I machine polished was indeed single stage as was an '03 White Corolla. I don't recall the year of the Accord, '03 or '04 I think. This is just so simple....compound the hood/top/trunk by machine or even by hand. If the pad comes up white (assuming you are starting with another color) then it is single stage.

So would a polish like Meguiars Ultimate be completely safe to use? I used Zaino AIO (all in one) today and it did help but when I see the paint under a street light at night its still very hazy in spots. Just want to make sure a dedicated polish like Meguiars Ultimate is safe to use on my single stage paint.

Single stage paint is polished or compounded just like any clear coated paint unless it is extremely old...that calls for different measures altogether.

Try the Megs polish on the worst area. If that doesn't cut the haze then go to ultimate compound. It's not easy to do a large area by hand and have it look uniform.

Do you know if the car has the original paint? Maybe it got resprayed for some reason?

Of course I haven't inspected any Taffeta White cars since this came up, but I still want to take a closer look. Not that I'm any kind of expert, and single stage paints actually look better in certain cases (especially on older cars). Even if it is single stage, there is no reason you wouldn't be able to hit it with a polisher and compound to make it shine like new. Shoot, the original red/orange paint on my 67 F250 shined up very nicely! Shows all the dents and scratches now, but at least it's shiny. I just used a cheap harbor freight 7" rotary polisher, yellow foam compounding pad, and turtle wax liquid rubbing compound from autozone. Followed that with another wash to get the residue off, and a good coat of paint sealant. Still looking good when I get out there and wash it.

I inspected a taffeta white 2012 accord yesterday that had some faded looking surfaces. It was dirty so I wasn't able to really get a good idea, but it just might be single stage. I feel like a clear coat wouldn't have faded at all in 3 years even if parked outside. Only way to know for sure would be to hit it with some compound on a towel and see if you get white. Hmm. Most compounds are white though haha I'm still not sure.

I just thought about this, is the Accord still covered under the bumper to bumper warranty? If so, go to the dealer and see what they think about the chalky paint. See if they'll repaint it under warranty.
