Gonna change out the fliud in my Ridgeline, thinking about using supertech mercon 5 since its z1 compatable. Would anyone have a problem using this fluid?
Cassidy, just make sure the ATF you choose says something along the lines of 'Suitable for use where Honda Z1 is specd'. You'll be fine as long as it says that on the bottle. There's nothing wrong w/ Supertech ATF.
I would only use the Z1. Try shopping the local dealers for a case price. I was able to get it for less than $5 qt. Too many stories of guys having trans issues with other fluids.
PT1, I'm with you with respect to buying genuine Honda Z1 if you can get it for $5/qt, but again, I've never heard of trans issues or failures from using an aftermarket "suitable for Z1 use" ATF.
Yeah I'm only changing the trans fliud now, I'm gonna use the vtm4 fliud for the diff, since there is no aftermarket replacement. The supertech bottle says its z1 spec right on the bottle. Even the ownera manual says that dexron 3 could be used in an emergency, so a non honda brand should be ok
I think between the Supertech and Maxlife you cant go wrong. I would avoid Z1 like the plague. Have had nothing but disapointment using it. Kinda like Toyota T-IV, a real joke of an ATF and there are always gonna be those paranoid people who will use nothing but OEM.
I have had great results using Redline and Amsoil ATF in honda/Acura platforms. Its expensive, but they always shift much better. Usually I always do a cooler line flush along with the addition of a Magnefine.
