This is a recall?
And owners have to physically visit a dealer to get the can replaced?

I have an idea…mail them a new can and tell them to throw the old one away.
It will blow up the garbage can and then there will be a real problem.

Anyway, all that Money Honda saved not providing an actual spare just went up in smoke. Pun intended.

I helped an elderly man change a tire last year. His tire was ruined yet he only drove about 200-300ft after realizing his tire was low and had no where to safely stop so he slowed down and made it to the first safe spot off the road being a gas station.

Tire was was destroyed though the rim survived which is all I'd care about. What would a stupid can of junk do in that scenario? Realistically the tire will get damaged beyond repair let alone be sealable with liquid junk in a can 90% of the time if one does the safe thing and drives to get out of harms way like he did.

Having that crap in my trunk would heavily encourage me to do the opposite thing and unsafely pull over quickly to save the tire to try to fill it with that junk as not having a real spare to get me back on the road quickly would make me try that.

Honda….just not what they used to be.
Nobody's building cars like they used to be. Previous engineering standards used to start with building each car's systems. e.g. engine, transmission, controls, etc. to the best of their ability with available materials to achieve the goals for each model design, e.g. power, performance, etc. Today, the engineering standards start with stacks of governmental requirements and "guidance" from executives which were set to maximize profits/stock performance, future owners be darned. Build it just good enough so the majority make it through warranty without too many serious defects. When this fails, at least the can had been kicked down the road, hopefully far enough, to have good returns on stockholders' investments long enough for execs to have maximized their bonuses.

Or maybe not? 🤷‍♂️

I had a rear tire blow on my neon in Northern Arizona. Thankfully I had a spare to get me to a tire shop and Thankfully they had a replacement in stock.

I refuse to own a car without a full size spare. I have been laughed at about this in other forums.

The first thing I did with our new Toyota was to replace the donut with a full size. I ruled out possible new car purchases based on inability to fit a full size spare.

If you never leave the city then I suppose its fine. Just not for me.

All that money, you don’t even get a donut (or that top quality scissors jack & tire tool)!
That was a huge mistake I made. Buying a car without a spare. Actually, the car is pretty good but not getting a spare was a huge mistake.

2013 Kia Rio. Came with a plug in compressor and a can of fix a flat. Wife got a flat while traveling. No doubt it was a nail or screw that could have easily been repaired since she used the fix a flat and made it to a tire shop. She got a new tire at the tire shop and they kept the old one.

On vacation and we got a wire through the tread. Broke down the camper and went and got a tire repair kit and repaired the tire. Had enough. Bought a full size spare which fit in the wheel well which was holding the fix a flat and compressor. Got a nice scissor jack at the bone yard.

How many cars have I not gotten flats? Two, my two new ones with less than 10K miles.

Bought a used chev truck off the lot years ago- no spare tire required by law he says......I say- am I any less fked if I get a flat? They find a spare and throw it the box. Head shake.

As of this year I can't get a replacement spare. According to Discount Tire they no longer make them. Has anyone else been told this?

Can of CO2 provided with the "flat" spare. I didn't trust getting the tire inflated on the first try. Been carrying around a 12v compressor since 1989. The compressor was only used once to see how long it would take to inflate the tire.....20 minutes.
