I am trying to get a nice warm fuzzy feeling about my Oil maitenance. I have an 05 Accord 4 cyl., an 07 Odyssey 6 cyl and still maintain my old (06) CRV 4 cyl. for my mother-in law. I was using M1 at about 7-8K intervals on the 4 cyl. I know used oil analysis is the best way to go but I don't feel like messing with it. I don't want to go way overboard, mostly because of time. Just want to feel comfortable that my Honda fleet will last many years with what I am doing. After reading many posts here I am thinking of just going back to whatever Dino is on sale instead of the M1. Don't want to mess with any oil I can't find at the local Pep boys or whatever.
How about those every other oil change filter changes. Is that reasonable. I have been changing the filter each time but would like to stop. I avoid Fram at all costs.

Thanks

Honda has some rhyme and reason behind suggesting the 7500 mile OCI and every other change filter swap. (IIRC, that is what our integra has too as spec).

If youre staying within honda's standard service (longer drain) bounds, and using a premium oil and filter, youll not have any issues at all.

Now, if you are changing oil brands all together from one change to another, Id likely change the filter, even if it is not due...

On the 2.4's I go with Amsoil's new 0w20 for 7500k-9000k depending on driving habits, with a Wix filter or use the EaO if you really don't want to change it and are looking to save a couple bucks. On the V-6, it sounds like the consensus is to change out every 5-6k and change the air filter every 10k for fuel-dilution issues.

What you are doing is great. Don't be talked out of M1. It gets lots of flack but that is because it is the best, most used synthetic out there. I use it with the Pureone filter on my Honda Accord. 170,000 and runs like new.

I'd switch to cheaper PP on sales and the rest
on extending the oil filter with a good filter sounds ok to me. Saving $2 or more a qt on syn adds up and I don't see any evidence that M1 delivers better performance. All I see is M1 going the Castrol path of more advertizing and types of oil with higher prices and higher margins. Great if you own ExxonMob; otherwise you are paying for yesterdays legend.

Sounds to me like you have a good schedule going. Why would you switch? If you can get a good synthetic oil cheaper sure save a few bucks there. Go to www.fleetfilter.com and order filters in bulk and save some more $$ there. But why compromise your current program? It sounds fine to me.
