Honda Prologue - the Better Blazer EV

THIS is the car I'd buy for my mom if I won the lottery. GM Ultium platform so it should have a heat pump and despite the issues ramping production and software issues on Blazer EV but parts availability won't be a problem anytime soon if you plan to keep it long term.

My biggest issue with the Blazer EV is the lack of Android Auto/Apple CarPlay which is a dealbreaker. Honda delivers pretty much the same car with more conservative styling and with that (IMO essential) feature.

Initial reviews are out although they were not allowed to charge the car so charging curve/performance is an unknown although it's most likely going to be similar to the Blazer EV, so vastly better than Bolt or BZ4X/Solterra, but not as good as Hyun/Kias or Teslas.

NACS/J3400 coming later this year through an adapter.

What do y'all think? I think the FWD bias makes sense in terms of keeping it similar to most other Hondas.

The Acura ZDX is coming soon and should be more similar to the Lyriq if you want RWD bias and/or fancier styling.

I think Barbie did it better with the Chevy.

Thats a whole lot of info and videos but what is the price.. we dont need another 50k ev.

Edit: googled it.
base price for the ?midtier? EX is 49000 not sure if that includes delivery so 50k+ maybe 54k with TTL fees etc.

Also be curious to see if the range number is more tesla(doesnt come close to advertised range) or actual.

For example tesla returning a 258mile highway range on a 358mile EPA range in IDEAL conditons.

I would trust a GM EV over a Tesla.
I can understand how you feel, as I trust certain manufacturers to do certain things right.

But it is good to note that 1) GM has little real world long term experience with EV's. 2) GM is using "pouch" cells packed tightly into a rectangular box, to contain expansion, called "prismatic", which have good specific energy and shorter lifespan. 3) GM techs/dealerships have zero experience repairing EV's.

Tesla on the other hand, has more experience with EV's than all other manufacturers combined. They use cylindrical cells for a good reason, they last for years. Even BMW and some others are now moving to the Tesla-style 46mm cylindrical cells. Remember a cylinder can contain expansion very well. Preventing cell degradation under challenging conditions.

I will say this, Tesla's mistake was making the 4680 only 80mm tall. Other manufacturers have discovered that a slightly taller cylinder results in a major improvement in volumetric energy. 15mm taller give 30% more energy.

Quality control, Tesla has had horrible quality control, bad panel gaps, bad material, etc and repairs are an insane wait time.

I am not an Elon fan but I do love what he is doing with Space X though and I do not hold my personal views on someone against a company, cancel culture is not my style.
Question for you... When is the last time you went and checked out a Tesla and took a test drive?

I know people who own them, so don't need to and don't plan to, even the Cybertruck is a gapping mess from what is out there currently that is just the reality. Now Tesla owners can defend Tesla all they want which is fine there isn't a manufacturer in the world who is perfect but for me Tesla is not it especially when a battery replacement costs $20,000 (not that GM is too much cheaper) and Tesla is one of the worst with right to repair.

I think Tesla will make more progress going forward though and my opinion is subject to change then.

What is the #1 selling vehicle in the world? Hint: It ain't a cheap econobox.

That has nothing to do with the fact that there is QC issues, period.
Disagree. There must be something good about them because owners love them.
Anyways you just said you never checked one out. Regardless, you have a right to your own opinion.

By the way, our 2018 Mid Range is perfect. We just drove a Highland; the Model 3 has grown up. I expect to buy the new Performance sometime this year.

It is truly remarkable that today's vehicles have a fit and finish that not all that long ago would have been considered unbelievably precise. Tesla falls short of what a comparatively priced Lexus achieves. But Tesla is still worlds better than American stuff from the 1970's.

Some of us really don't care all that much about panel gaps. I drive my vehicles hard. It's not unusual for my wife to have a minor accident or three. Or for me to take the F150 down the trail and get scraped up. Heck, I carried a roll of aviation carpet in my Jaguar with the windows down to fit, and the backing scraped up the paint, and I one day, I stupidly closed the hangar door on the car, crushing the roof. Beauty is fleeting.

Tesla has the best EV battery, the best motor controllers, and the best motors. and when you are purchasing an EV, these are the critical parts.

So just so we are clear here, in your view #1 selling means it is great and doesn't have QC issues?

We really really wanted to consider the prologue as my wife’s next car. We were looking at it kind of like an electric CRV. We would love to have one. For that price, absolutely not. Inconceivable for us. Mazda CX-5 looks like a steal in comparison and will likely be 9 dB quieter inside. She has owned 1 ford and ever since been a Honda gal. She’s considering the Mazda…

Your question doesn't make sense. Go see the new cars and then tell me what you think. It the cars are as poorly made as you think. why do they sell so well? You know they aren't cheap.
Here's one review; there are many others.
Ford was having cam phaser and timing chain issues for well over a decade as well as spark plug blow out/seize issues, these aren't cheap trucks but yet they are the #1 selling truck in America, even then.

So again #1 selling means absolutely nothing in terms of quality, and you can use this same logic outside of the auto industry just look at the Iphone as a prime example, a lot of it comes down to a status symbol for many.

And if you actually check on Tesla forums there is many reports of QC issues. There is no point in continuing this on you own a Tesla so you are going to defend it no matter what even when issues exist which is fine.
