I was thinking about getting a small Honda generator. I have seen people using them when camping or tailgating and they are very quiet.

The model I was looking at is the Honda EU1000i Inverter Generator. It is small and very quite and rated at 1000watts.

Does anyone recommend anything than the Honda? I am open to other brands but it must be very quiet and small.

Does anyone know of or will recommend a place to buy this on the Internet? There are tons of places selling them but I would rather go with a recommendation.

Thanks

The Honda and Yamaha inverter gen-sets are the quietest. But I wonder why you would settle for 1K Watt. The 2K Watt will run a small AC unit so you can cool off a tent on a hot day.

There are extended run fuel tanks availabel for the Honda. With a 5 Gallon add on tank you can easly run it for at least 24 hours non-stop, and probably more like two days.

CostCo has a Chonda (honda clone) inverter gen-seet. It is a copy for a loat less. But if you are going to want years of trouble free running the real Honda is probably the way to go.

The Chonda knock off can be hard to get parts for. Kinda a disposable unit.

That's a good point. It's probably worth it. I wonder how much more it costs.

I would recommend going slightly larger to a Honda/Yamaha 2K or the Subaru 1.7K already mentioned. You may find it handy for home backup or other projects. Among those 3 I would shop and buy locally. The quality is there with all three.

As said the hondas use inverter technology and are the bees knees. That's the search term to use; try amazon, home depot, overstock, etc. I recall last black friday had a $300 inverter genset on northern tool. (?)

Sorry to go off topic here, but does anyone else find this kind of odd? Good grief. Isn't the idea of camping to get away from our normal daily lifestyle?

Tailgating, maybe that's a bit different. But, still..........there's nothing quite relaxing as being in a campground with the noise of generators and TV's in the background.

I've got the Harbor Freight 800W 2 stroke generator. It's $89 with a coupon from the back of a magazine right now. The $910 you save by not purchasing a Honda EU1000 will buy a lot of gas!.

By the way, there is an off grid guy with one of these 2 stroke generators with nearly 4000 hours total time on it!

They do have some known issues. Crummy spark plugs and fuel line. Replace those, and maybe a new bridge rectifier after a few years.

The nice thing is that they have no electronics to fail.

I'm a Yamaha guy. If I'm in the market for a product and Yamaha makes it,I'll look there first.

I have a Yamaha EF2400is. I use it when were boondocking in our fifth wheel. I went large enough that it'll run the A/C on those 90+° days we get in the summer time.

The Hondas are great units also. If Yamaha didn't make generators,I'd buy a Honda without a second thought.

You may consider the 2000 watt Honda. They aren't that much more and they can be run in parallel with a second 2000 watt unit to double the output if needed. I don't think the 1000 watt models can.

My Yamaha can be run in parallel also.

I have an EU2000I chained to my tree in the back yard that has been running all night since a storm knocked out power here yesterday. Comcast is also powering their box in my backyard with the same generator. Super quiet and zero problems. My neighbor has some knockoff generator that is kept everyone awake last night because it was so loud. For a quiet generator for camping you will do well with the Honda.

Get the eu2000i if you're going to go honda. If you lose power in the winter you can run a 1500 watt space heater from it for warmth.

The briggs generators are not a good choice for residential backup in a neighborhood. They're very noisy. My champion has a honda gx340 clone on it and is actually not bad as far as noise goes. Offer to power your neighbors fridges and you'll get a lot less hassle come night time.

Another vote for the Honda EU2000. I have one and it is a great little generator. Easy to move, super quiet, and sips gas.
