Honda lawn mower question

I bought this Honda lawn mower, the one that you pull to start and push to cut the grass type, I dont have the model number in front of me, tonight I will. my question is

its been 8 years and use it every month, and storage it for the winter time, I just wonder this thing need oil change ? and where to buy oil ?

Honda OPE (Mowers) recomend 10W30 oil. The OCI is between 20 and 25 hours of service. 8 Years ????

Any name brand oil will work just fine.

Yeah, change the oil. In Mississippi, the manual would call for a straight 30wt oil. It'll take about 16 oz. of oil (1/2 quart) and there is no filter to change.

yes I never change oil lol, every time I take it out for cut grass, I alway though about changing the oil, but never really find out what oil its.

Hummm, any oil would be better than never changing at all...

You can use a 30wt, or GC if you want to spend the big buck on it..

Use any 30 weight oil (SAE 30, 10w30, etc) and change it once a year.

Eight years? How many hours per year would you estimate?

It's amazing the abuse these small engines can take.

Let us know how much oil comes out of the engine compared to how much you put in. After that length of time with average use, I'd be impressed if there's much oil in it!

last season I check it still full, I remmeber first when I bought it, my neighbor came over help me put in the oil, the little bottle that came with law mower mix with something, i forgot. i forgot it was for the gas or the oil, all i remmeber their is little honda bottle that i have to mix with something.

Yes change it and run either straight SAE 30 or a synthetic 10w30.

The Honda engines are no doubt tough...

My son-in-law recently stated he's never changed the oil in the one he bought in '03 or '04(he should know better)... I'd bet the oil had never been changed in the '04 engine I put on my old Snapper, my friend that gave it to me said the original owner(his neighbor)never services his stuff... I changed it's oil and have cut four or five times since, still full...

You would be suprised what abuse ANY engine can take. My current job (working for an airline, in charge of maintenance) when I took over two years ago, most of our ford 300ci L6 & perkins diesel engines had gone 2-3 years without an oil change. They just added makeup oil every so often. This equipment sees an average 70 hours per week!

Those engines still run, are on a normal PM schedule and don't really burn any oil.

We run NAPA fleet 15w40.

I overmaintain everything I own, and not suprisingly, nothing ever breaks!

10w-30 in Honda engine . Any quality name brand will work fine, but dang, change it!! Your making all us BITOGers cringe!!

Well the OP didn't join till July of '10, but I'd have thought it would have become clear in a short time that ALL internal combustion engines require oil changes...
