Honda interchange

One of my wife's long-time friends has a '97 Honda Civic...she's been very sick in the last few years with little money to spare, so I've taken over the maintenance on her car...it needs to last her a while longer.

My question is whether the "newer" OEM number 15400-PLM-A01/A02, which translates to a WIX 51356 or a FRAM TG7317, is interchangeable with the filter specified for that car which is a WIX 51334 or FRAM TG3593A. It looks to me that they are the same, but one is longer. I can get the "newer" OEM filters for a really good price and will use them if they'll work.

The latter are larger diameter cans. The former are the new skinnier ones. Same as the 14459 and 14610 comparison in the Purolator world. The threads are still M20x1.5 and the gasket diameter is the same.

If it were me, I'd get PureOnes (PL14610) for $2.74 on Amazon (buy 3 packs of 2 to get the free shipping and then you get $12 back in rebates).

The 'newer' oil filter will work just fine on that Civic.

All Civic filters from about 1988 to 2010 are 'interchangeable' in terms of the M20 x 1.5 threads.

Every Honda spec-ed filter since 88 fits on every other Honda since 88...including the s2k (granted the s2k has a toyo roki built filter with a higher bypass pressure and larger can).

I've been using the fram 7317/ PL 14610's on my wife's Acura 3.2TL and now my wife's Honda Ody. I've been doing this for close to 7 years now with no problems.

I've used the 1356 size on my 1334 specced Acura (Honda) and it worked fine. They're interchangeable.
