I think this log splitter I picked up is missing a start cup?
The pull cord does not engage the lower part of engine.
Is this a universal part and aftermarket Amazon cup is ok or need a specific Honda part?

Also is there a small choke toggle part?
this also seems to be missing a toggle lever to operate the choke.
Engine serial number GJ01-1027244

This thing is a beast though...

Thanks in advance.

You may be missing spacers / shims that go between the recoil starter and the engine fan shroud. I have seen some engines with these so as to provide fine adjustment to the recoil starter pawls and the cup engagement openings.

With the top part detached like it is, pull the cord slowly to see if the starter pawls (I call them dogs) extend out of the center hub. It looks like the cup is OK.

Also it appears an electric starter motor is fitted. Even without any other electrical system you could energize it with a jumpstart pack.

Yes I have been using a garden tractor battery to jump the starter with cables.
The carb was full of rust like I have never seen.

Still need to sort a choke lever out.

The cap was covering the pawl when the cord was released and binding preventing it from coming out when pulled again.
It looks like there may be a spring missing inside.
I bent the cap slightly to prevent it from covering the pawl. It worked 3 times in a row. 🤞
