Air is leaking in somewhere. Check for air leak by spraying throttle body cleaner around until you hear a change in engine speed w/ the extra fuel entering the system. Throttle body gasket, intake manifold, leaking injector oring, and PCV as was suggested above.

good luck

Thanks to this link provided by Dave plus knowledge of the rest of the group it does indeed appear to be a bad cold start idle valve. The internals are leaking air which is keeping the idle high. New valve has been ordered.

Update, it's fixed! The folks who suggested a bad cold start valve had it nailed. Installed a new one today and the idle came right down. In fact after the engine warmed up it was TOO low and started stalling. Someone had indeed monkeyed with the throttle body bypass screw as some suggested. I adjusted it by the tach and got a consistent warm idle of about 750 RPM.

Thanks to everyone!

BTW, a tip for my fellow BITOG'ers who own Hondas. A great source of genuine Honda parts at reasonable prices can be found here:

http://www.hondaautomotiveparts.com/

Majestic Honda in Rhode Island. I've ordered parts from them several times for this Accord as well as my Civic. Fast shipping too. Usually within 3 days. No connection with them what so ever, just a satisfied customer.
