My wife's Honda CRX had a solid copper washer and the mechanic at the dealer would get it so tight that I almost couldn't get it off. I finally started changing her oil and I made a gasket out of the plastic top of a coffee can and had no leaks with only moderate tightness. Used it over and over.

I like that idea. I think I'll give it a try. I love it when you can improvise and have a better solution than the original.
