not being a #@$%!, but did you check the owner's manual?
if that is the one rockauto shows, then it does have one....and from the looks of it, you must have a "normal" pan that can be dropped and change the filter, like my 1992 Galant, but unlike the 2001 civic that has no pan.

owner's manual makes no mention of ATF filter. i have serviced this transmission several times - it does not have a "normal" pan that can be dropped. like almost all late model hondas it has a transmission case, very similar to a manual transmission.

ahhh, then belay my last, i think Rockauto might be wrong? Will let someone else chime in....my civic has the same type yours does.....sorry.

The 99 Accord does not have a serviceable A/T filter only an inlet screen that pretty much requires dismantling the transmission. I have an '02 Accord V6 along with the factory service manuals.
They started using A/T filters on the Accord A/T within the 7th generation. I believe it was in '05. I don't believe the '03-'04 has it, but not positive.

They have auto trans filters for the 03 and 04 Accords. There are two different part numbers. One for the 4 cylinders and a different one for the V-6s. I replaced the one on my 04 V6 last summer. I don't remeber the part numbers but the parts are listed on the same page as the oil cooler lines. My local dealer ordered the I4 filter for me the first time. The I4s are easier to change than the V6s.

If I remember correctly, someone posted the parts book page on this site. I think that is how I found the parts.

The posts above are correct - the 03's & up do have an in-line trans filter. Funny thing though, the owner's manual has no mention of the filter, or a maintenance interval. When I found went to my local dealer to order one, they told me that Accord's have no trans filter. When I insisted, he disappears into the shop to ask a mechanic. Coming back, he says, Our top tech says to not change the filter. I left those idiots and ordered the filter from a Honda dealer on-line.

Accord's do have some trans issues - why Honda would not even list that filter as a maintenance item is a mystery to me.

Honda/Acura 5 speed transmission, depending on model/year, has a serviceable ATF filter. For example, it is item 9 in 2nd generation Acura TL

Check out this huge thread on Honda ATF on Ody forum, same filter
http://www.odyclub.com/forums/showthread.php?s=1d380326314a1304f3f5d3c4bce5992b&threadid=28594
Even Honda mechanics are told Nx times that there is no serviceable filter even though there is. Even when owner points it out that ATF exists, right on the diagram, he is told it never needed replacement.
Yeah right, is the earth flat because everyone says so ???

I found the same thing on a '01 Civic. There is an internal filter. So I guess if it get clogged, the transmission will be toast, and it need to come apart anyways. Good thinking, lol.

our 2001 civic ex 4AT's filter got clogged....by all the clutch particles. $1950 later I am getting ready to drop 3 qts out, replace with Amsoil ATF, then 5k later, do the same and let her run.

Our 01 CR-V does not even have a AT filter to begin with, only an internal screen filter that is not user serviceable. I have added a Magnefine inline filter that I replace yearly. I also drain & fill the Z1 every 16K kms. and have been doing this for the last 2 years now that is since I joined BITOG. The CR-V is now at 175K kms and the AT seems to shift just fine.

Hello rsylvstr,

I was wondering if the ATF fliter on your Civic is inside the transmission .....or is it outside the trans and can be replaced ??

Did Honda give you a warranty when they rebuilt your transmission ??

Thanks for your help and info.

As far as I know, it's inside the transmission. We had a local shop rebuild for $1950, which for a Honda, I thought was a reasonable price. 12k/12mos warranty.
