Trav, nice work! Your attention to detail is fantastic! How's the Injector Cleaning Business going?

Man, now I'm scared to follow the MM on my wife's Pilot.

She does the same short trips around town that the Trav mentioned in the OP!

Time for 3K oil changed LOL! Seriously, I'm probably going to 5K like my VQ though!

Look down the oil fill hole,if its nice and clean there is probably no need to change what your doing.
Do check/replace that PCV valve if its used on your engine. Its a 10mm head in front of the valve cover near the dipstick, after removing the bolt just twist while pulling it out, don't pry on it or it could break off.

I've followed the MM (and its just a light no percentage shown) on my Dad's Honda powered Vue and he short trips ALL the time (like 90% with ease) and just changed the oil yesterday. The oil filler looks just as clean as new...

OCI per the MM are between 6-7k average.

Usually, when they stop functioning or within so many miles based on your owners maintenance guide/or aftermarket book etc.

Typically, you can pull it off(since some cars don't have the setup for a 'squeeze' the pipe and listen for the click trick), then just examine it and shake it to see if the valve moves freely. If it looks oil logged, replace it. If it's fairly clean, just listen for if it rattles quickly(which is what you want) or takes more effort to get the valve to move while shaking it.

Otherwise, some people can get away with using throttle body cleaner on it and it cleans right up, but it is a really cheap part and should be easy to find for you car at any autoparts store, though I'm not sure if OEM from the dealer is any better.

My Civic VX still has the original hollow PCV valve. It's really just a bent plastic pipe. The newer models subsequently had an actual valve and all new replacement parts are that way. Not sure of the pros/cons for my current hollowed version vs. the newer PCV valves on this particular car, but I don't notice any difference and emissions are the same.

Honda techs are saying about 30K.I paid $14 at the dealer retail maybe slightly higher.
Rock Auto has an AIRTEX / WELLS valve Part # 6P1243 for $14.81

Trav,

I have 1999 Odyssey and I am trying to find the location of the PCV valve. I am not sure if the Odyssey that you had has the PCV valve in the same location but do you have a picture showing its exact location relative to other components?

Thanks,

This is for a 99 the 05 is a little different, the PCV is "A".You may need to remove some plastic covers, hope it helps.

Looks like it has single PCV valve on the rear bank only. That picture definitely helps. I will remove the engine cover and see if I can locate it.

Yes it seems to use just a conventional looking PCV.
I think there may be a long thin plastic cover over it that needs to be removed. Its under the main large plastic engine cover.
