Honda 21" mower self propel question

Hi all

Honda 21" self propel mower. ..about 5 years old...well maintained.

Today while cutting, the left rear wheel kept locking up and dragging. When I lift up the rear and engage the self propel, the right wheel turns but the left wont.

Each spring, I take the rear wheels off clean and lube. Mowed several times already with no issues.

Any ideas what is causing this??

does it lock up when pulling back or when mowing forward? or both.

What is the model number?

Take the wheels off and check the ratchets also check and make sure the inner circles are tightly in the groves, if not it will allow the transmission to move side to side.

yes it said "circlips" but auto correct. Mine is hydrostatic and I'm assuming yours is similar.

Duck. You were right. Snap ring came out of its groove and pinion gear slid off axle.
All back together now

get parts while you can as Honda is going OUT of mower business!!

While Honda is indeed ending production of gasoline powered mowers at the end of this year, my understanding is they will continue to provide parts for those mowers.

Do you have a cite that reflects something different?
