My Dad gave me his Homelite SuperXL Automatic chain saw a few weeks ago. I cleaned it up and it runs great. I had to cut up 2 trees with it already and I can already tell it is a beefier saw than my Poulan (which runs great too btw).
Anyway, I noticed that when the saw is not running and I tilt the saw so that the crankshaft is vertical, fuel dribbles out of the relief port on the gas cap. I just assumed the gas cap was bad and ordered another one. Well, I got it today I found that it does the same thing.
My guess is when running it might not dribble because I vacuum is pulled on the tank maybe?
Does anyone else have one of the classics and can let me know the proper operation of the fuel cap?
PS-This saw must be around 37+ years old. I used it when I was 16 to cut some neighbors trees for $$. I’m really glad to get it from my dad who at 89 has decided he won’t be using a chainsaw anymore.
