Home Depot for Auto Parts? Yes.

For me, HD has been fantasmic.

I recently picked up some Penzoil (in store) 10w-40 for $2.00 a quart.
I don't care if I only use that Penzoil for lubricating drill bits...that's a BARGAIN !

I know exactly what parts I order so there is never any doubt or confusion.
Besides, Im in and out of home depot often enough that if I did get a wrong part, returning it is easy enough.
Home depot has never given me a hassle on returns. Easy peasy.
SFSG
i am selling every vehicle i own and replacing them entirely with vehicles that call for 10w-40.

Because of this thread I checked Lowe’s and see that they sell car tires. They have a set I will consider.
Isn’t this just like Walmart selling vintage 1981 era IBM 5150 PCs? (Walmart “sells” antique computer parts for other vendors)

This is similar except HD/Lowes are handling the “ship to store” option hiding the vendor, this is far better than Walmart where if you need a return on 3rd party merchandise your screwed. But it is more like a virtual marketplace than actually being HD or Lowe’s.

So, Autozone and the other big name parts stores sell the exact same items but .......to justify the 4 x price hike.....

They give you a "Lifetime replacement warranty".
So total honesty, at least twice I put the receipt in the box and put the box in the garage on a shelf....a couple years later went back to Autozone and the receipt had magically faded so it couldnt be read....and low and behold...the items was NOT in their system...sorry charlie...no exchange.

Counter parts guy said, yeah, seems every year or so they have a"glitch" and they seem to lose some warranty data.
When I said they were sleazy and underhanded....did I lie?

Me? I'll just buy 3 on the cheap and self warranty on the savings 🏁

- Have to give it to Autozone that they had a coolant tank cap for my n54 engined BMW in stock and available on a Saturday night.

- Have to give it to sanity that when you open the box with said cap - more expensive than original BMW, btw - and find the cap (a very, very Chinese one) in pieces, some concerns are in order.

- Have to give it to Autozone that their OTHER store a mile away ALSO has the cap. They are either great, or their parts department knows its BMWs. Yes, they'll wait for me for another five minutes before they close.

- Have to give it to Autozone's return policy, as this thing bounced back to their counter the second my original BMW cap arrived...

And yes, the two days old ticket had already started to fade.

The website is nascent at best.
There's no place to enter a vehicle's specifics such as year, make, model, trim.
Also, the descriptions of the score or so of parts I looked at didn't mention detailed specifics either.
No engine sizes given for timing kits, etc.

Out of frustration, I tried typing in "2005 Ford Ranger 4.0l oil filter". I was provided with pages of different oil filters....hundreds of them.

I conclude you need part numbers to look up a part.
Kind of like looking for something in their stores

Lately I've been buying more and more of my auto parts on the home depot website.
Most of the time they have the same brand name parts for a LOT LESS than Autozone or even Amazon

Just wondering if anyone else has found this?
same with walmart, and its usually next day arrival. i got my ntn bearing from walmart, shipped and sold by wally

I got burned by this decades ago -- they did a "system update" and lost all warranty info. Ever since I keep a folder in the house for receipts I truly think I might want to warranty, and of course photocopy to prevent fading if I really care.

Exactly. IIRC, this is what they tell me when I take a part in without a good receipt.
If I go to autozone, it's just for a quick bottle of oil or something cheap like that.

I hardly ever buy parts from there anymore. I go RockAuto or Amazon most of the time.
I think eventually retail auto parts stores will diminish because as on line gets more and more popular their traffic will dwindle and they'll have to scale back. The only way I see them being able to move forward is to drop not only their brick and mortar locations and go strictly online like RockAuto, but also drop their prices big time.

Especially with auto makers pushing so hard to make cars non buyer serviceable.

Bought Wagner headlamp bulbs from HD. They weren’t in stock at a store. Had to get them delivered to a store, but they were sold directly by Home Depot.

Just purchased a few accessories for both cars from Home Depot and delivery for pick up was prompt . Very good about returns as well .
