Holy OCOD Failure, Batman!

That is why I drew attention to the videos. Orange Cans are OK for a basic oil change. This guy beats his filters to death. You can do that with any filter. The fact is, there is a huge section of the public that does not know one end of a horse from the other when it comes to car maintenance. Even among Ferrari owners.

He makes the comment: "There's a lot of grit in the folds of this."

Could be the filter collapsed because it was over loaded with crud and the PSID was just too high across the media, even if the filter bypass valve worked, it's possible it couldn't keep up with the oil pump, especially if the pump was high volume.

Never heard how long that filter was installed on the Ferrari before he removed it and cut it open.

Other causes of a collapsed center tube is that oil pump's pressure regulator going hay-wire, which would put much more flow volume, and hence, more PSID across the filter.

Who knows, the guy might rev the thing to 8K PRM 30 seconds after a cold start. Many factors could be involved.

It never really pays to try and use an oil filter for way more miles than it's designed to run.

He looks at the smashed center tube and says "I don't know that it's original shape was, but it's totally smashed now."

... dude, really? Last time I checked, all center tubes were round.

I have an old book about Ferraris, which contains many intersting bits, like a long essay by Phil Hill about his days as a factory driver.
Anyway, there is a nice photo of a 365 V-12 on an engine stand.
Mounted atop the engine are two Fram filtro olios.
Ferrari has apparently used Frams as a matter of choice for years.

I would think Ferrari would have custom built, hand made filters, hand painted to the customers color choice with urethane base/clear! lol
