I was just wondering:
1) Is there a limit to how much moly should be in the initial fill of an engine to allow enough cross-hatching scuffs to occur?

2)Too high of a moly content in an oil equals to a clogged oil filter?

3)What's the moly count for a virigin Chevron Supreme 5w30?

This may seem redundant, but I asked these questions in regard for my better understanding of the advantages of molybdenum, esp. in the initial fill of a new engine. I know honda's have around 200-300 ppm of moly.. but what do you guys think about it being critical for proper wearing in of a new engine?
 
The cross hatch pattern doesn't come from wear. It comes from the final honing after the block is bored.

Moly won't clog your oil filter.
 
Honda's high moly count in the initial factory fill comes from moly-based assembly lubes, not the oil itself. Moly has no strong value either way in the proper break-in of a new engine.

I believe that there's a VOA on Chevron Supreme in the VOA section of this board.
 
Im a noobie also so bare with me. Ok, i know that moly is a good lubricant and a good friction inhibitor. So let me get this straight, even with all the high number of moly in a conventional oil like honda's, chevron's, or havoline's, it seems to me that you guys are saying that the moly doesn't appear to have any real impact on the wearing in of an engine correct??
 
I know there must be enough friction during the initial hundred miles or so in a new engine, let's say if one were to replace the factory fill with a havoline conventional oil at 200 miles, would all that moly affect the friction or wearing-in process. Please speculate! =)
 
Highroller, you are correct: moly, whether from assembly lubes or from the additive package in a PCMO, does not prevent a new engine from wearing in. If it did, the engine manufacturers would not use moly-based assembly lubes.
