Hm oil

$17.99 for a high mileage oil and filter isn't too bad. I'm not sure what the capacity of the Esteem is, but it is probably going to be close to what you can do it yourself for.

We are DIYers here. Also, there's nothing wrong with the oils that Walmart has. The Quaker State and Pennzoil products are good.

I'll second whatever the cheapest high mileage is. Maybe you can get them to put in the "Supertech" high mileage?

Some of you guys are really rude. How about answering the guy's questions rather than ranting about his situation?

I'd go with the thicker oil personally, which is the GTX HM, because it will not get past the valve guides as quickly. But I don't think you can go wrong with either. And yes, you probably can't do it yourself for $17.50, so it's a good deal.

If it's the valve stem seals though, why not just fix it by replacing them? Can be done in an afternoon in your driveway if you have/rent the proper tools for the job.

I'd either go GTX HM, or Delo400 HEDO. Neither will ultimately fix bad valve stem seals. But the Delo might clean a bit more as it has additional detegency...

145km is not really high mileage - about 90,000 which is starting to approach the place where I switch all my vehicles to Delo400 (100K miles). I've been happy doing this for about 20 odd years now. And I have a small fleet all well over 150K miles. My last Volvo Turbo went just shy of 300K miles on Delo when it would no longer pass a smog test (ran fine)...

Point being you have a long way to go. You'll get to the valve seals eventually

19.99 quakerstate advance durability oil change
29.99 penzoil conventoil oil change
34.99 hm oil change witch is penz or castorl.
49.99 full syn oil change with penz, mobil or castrol.
all oil changes include orange fram filter.
the 19.99 is basic oil, oil filer and check tires.
the rest are "full service" witch is wash windows, vaccum, and check all other fluids and top off if needed. but not including brake or radiator fluid. and thats how my walmart runs lol also if there is any grease fittings those get greased on any oil change. and we check and add to the diff fluid too only on full services

I wish places would not use low tier filters for all the oils they offer. I understand they want to use the cheapest filter but a Fram Extra Guard orange can with synthetic? Stupid. That's why synthetic from an oil change business is a waste. Synthetic is no good if the filter you use with it won't go past 5,000 miles.

I use a lot of HM oils in my old fleet, those are both excellent oils and very comparable. I like them both a lot.

While the Castrol starts out a hair thicker, it will likely also shear a bit more than Pennzoil under use in my experience so I'd call that one a wash.

And you are getting a great deal on the change at half price, no worries if that is what works for you.

Interesting those oils are only 2 bucks more on the shelf but they want 15 extra bucks for an oil change with them? Is HM oil somehow much harder to pour???

I agree oil change prices are outrages, compared to the price you can diy. We sell a valvoline fuel injection service for 20 bucks and we buy that stuff for 3 bucks. Its just a can you dump in your tank and another can you hook up to a vaccum line. Does it work idk? But its basicly a seafoam treatment. So im more less leaning towards the penz from my understanding it has more moly witch is good for lubeing parts and wont sheer as much as castrol? Yes they are both syn blends

Pennzoil and Castrol are two of the best oils in imo and in my experience. Pennzoil is a mineral while Castrol is a synth blend. The Pennzoil has a ton of moly and the highest tbn. Maybe give both a go and see which one your vehicle seems to run the best on.

And then there's Maxlife red bottle which seems to have a cult following. Used to have a ton of moly as well, but has since been replaced by something undetectable via analysis.

It is advertised as a conventional, but a Pennzoil rep posted on here once it is actually a blend. However he never responded to follow up questions and whole thing seems to be "hush hush" or something.

Some believe many of our current SN "conventional" oils are actually blends anyway.

Nope. It's a mineral oil. From Pennzoil's site:

*Pennzoil® High Mileage Vehicle® is a Pennzoil® conventional motor oil that has been enhanced with a unique combination of special conditioning agents and additives to help stop leaks from seals and reduce the oil consumption that is typical of older, worn engines.*
