So the question is should i run castrol gtx high mile or penz high mile? My driving habbits are about a 25 mile trip to work everyday just about. 20 miles of it is 65 mph highway and the other 5 is stop and go city. Its a 01 suzuki esteem with 145k miles. Makes a little puff on start up (valve stems). So about 50 miles a day. Anyways what oil is better for me and why? I get it changed at walmart for 34.99 for hm oil and those are there only two choices of oil. Also it uses about half a quart or less every 3k change.

Why ? Why aren't you changing your own oil ?

+1?

Because i work at walmart in the tle shop and its half off for me so its 17 bucks but i didnt want to tell my life story lol but still cant beat 17 bucks so back to the question witch oil and why

no ill just be watching and where not allowed to work on our own cars. i dont change my own because i dont have a pit to go under the car and all the other things that are easy access at work. and for the price i doubt i could get the oil alone for that. but the oil change includes a bad orange fram filter. i was planning on using purolator. also if you where curious my walmart sells oil in this manner.
19.99 quakerstate advance durability oil change
29.99 penzoil conventoil oil change
34.99 hm oil change witch is penz or castorl.
49.99 full syn oil change with penz, mobil or castrol.
all oil changes include orange fram filter.
the 19.99 is basic oil, oil filer and check tires.
the rest are "full service" witch is wash windows, vaccum, and check all other fluids and top off if needed. but not including brake or radiator fluid. and thats how my walmart runs lol also if there is any grease fittings those get greased on any oil change. and we check and add to the diff fluid too only on full services

not enough time i guess..

why? thats kinda of rude/weird? i asked a question and wanted atleast some sort of constructive criticism. not a someone who didnt want to recommend a oil becuase they dont like what the other party is doing? not trying to start a war or anything. its my first post here. i just didnt think i would get a answer like that.

i dont understand? i dont have the time to do my own oil. i work 40 and the 2 days i do get off i dont really want to do what i do at work. i change the oil myself in my ninja 636 and in my ltr 450 but i just dont in my car, when i can get it changed for cheaper then the price of the oil i want. idk what you have against people who dont change there own oil. before i worked there i changed my own oil in my truck. but i never really changed my own oil in my suzuki. i did my own tranny flush on it though.

Your new here. Merk is a special kind of cat. I suggest not getting butthurt by his or anyone else's posts.
We are do it yourselfers here. We are cheap, and don't trust others to do a job proper which is why we prefer to tackle our own maintenance.
Starting a thread about which oil to use at Walmart goes against our beliefs.

As far as your question goes it doesn't matter. They are both decent products and will perform so similarly that you won't notice any difference.

Why a high mileage oil. If you aren't leaking oil there no need for a high mileage oil.

Because i get that puff of smoke on start up and im curious if the hm oil will cure it. I know i know the perment cure is fix the problem and not cover it up. But its my beater car i paid 900 for.

Hi Dylan,

Welcome !!!!

Here is a link to the PQIA tests of HM oils, which include the two you are talking about. They are both good products and no problem with either of them.

http://www.pqiamerica.com/June 2014/consolidated highmileage2014.html

Of the two, I personally like the GTX. It has the highest viscosity of all the oils tested and therefore should control oil burning the best.

If on the day, they were out, I would have no problem with the Pennzoil, but the GTX would be my pick.

Also, if I worked in the shop like you, and could get it changed at half price, then I too would take advantage of that offer. I'm sure your work mate will look after you and do it all right.

Go the GTX and go the half price Walmart change.

Pennzoil High Mileage Vehicle with all that molybdenum. Stopped an oil pan weep for me while the previous fill of Mobil Super high mileage did nothing for the weep. Runs quieter too with the Pennzoil. Can't say nothing about the Castrol high mileage because I have never used it.

This one does

But if you want to sneak up on it, use your GTX 5W-30

(No offence to anybody…..just playing around)

If it doesn't, you need an engine rebuild ...

GM truck engines used to start doing that on start up and there was nothing that would cure that other than repair.
