Hit 240 today.

Not miles or km, but degrees. Ambient temp was 30ish with a humidex of 38 or so. Speed was 140km/h. Is 240 degrees too hot for the oil? The oil is Esso XD-3 0w30. The water temp was 200 - 210.

That's hot but not too hot.

VR6 hits 240F almost everytime I'm on the highway going around 80-85mph. You should be fine with XD-3 since it is pretty thick 30wt . 40wt is not a bad idea though when temps creep up to 240F.

Thanks. I should've mentioned that it's a 2000 Beetle with the 2.0 AEG motor (not turbo'd). The manual does spec 5w40, and next oil change I'll be using 0w40 XD-3.
