Historic cicada season coming for some of us. Yuck

I'm a west coaster....we don't have bugs like that here but whenever I visit back east I enjoy the summer sounds of cicadas.

There are the annual cicadas then there are these ground covered in dead bodies hatches after they do their reproductive duties. Instead of 100 or 1000 cicadas in hearing range there are 100,000 or 500,000 or who knows??

They don't bug me too bad. ;)

I actually kind of miss the sounds and when they first start up, it's comforting in a way. Then halfway through the season, I'm tired of it. Finding all the husks for months after is also cool (to me).
It was always fun as a kid to find the shells.

The cicada killer wasps, not so much. Though it is neat to watch them get one.

I never got the historic cicada cycle thing. We get them every year.
Same. Maybe they’re a little bit louder but it’s not something you’ll notice after a winter of silence to compare. We just always got them.

That said, if there is a peak I’d be kind of interested to go to IL or IN or that area, and get to the woods and listen.
