So far the highest Viscosity Indexes I have been able to find are:

1. 197-Redline 0w40
2. 186-Mobil 1 0w40 European Car Formula
3. 184-Mobil 1 5w50
4. 182-Royal Purple 0w40

I can't seem to find the viscosity index from Pennzoil/Quaker State/Shell or Castrol. Royal Purple doesn't release data on their race oils either.

Can anyone add to the list?

Thanks for the replies. Then that says a lot about the Redline oil! 0w40 does appear to have a higher VI than other grades in the same oil though.

Not really and yes it does. If you know Redline uses very little - to no VII's then you know it's a great oil. Esters (and PAO's to some extent) do have high natural VI's. I do believe Buster quoted Dave as saying the RL 0W-40 uses some VII's.
