I just replaced my oil filter and added Auto-RX to my engine oil about 750 miles ago for the for the "clean phase". So I still got another 750 miles to go before I drain the oil and replace with dino oil for the rinse phase.

I noticed oil consumption has increased. I was using 1 quart every 1200 miles but it appears I will have to add another quart sooner than usual (850 miles).

Is this normal for the clean phase? Will this also happen for the rinse phase? When should I notice an improvement - after the rinse phase?

FYI the car has about 70k miles on it

TIA

Tony

I usually run ARX 2000 miles. Normally, I'd say that consumption would be normal, but in hindsight, I sorta remember a bit more consumprion w/ARX. As far as adding more ARX, I would not with only a few 100 miles to go, seems like a waste. Better to put it all in at the start and top-off with something thick.

td1 there are many posts making it very clear that you won't see much if you cut open a filter during the cleaning cycle.

It is a the rinse cycle that you can visualy see the "contaminants" leaving your oil lubricated rotating parts

and lodging in your filter.

Go to www.auto-rx.com and read the FAQ than go to the search engine on the Auto-Rx home page and type in 1 word that is part of your question (like oil) and read facts from the Auto-Rx team. We offer this to help customers get correct data. Auto-Rx values your business.

Hi Frank,

I did go the the Auto-rx FAQ and searched "oil consumption" most links were regarding the reduction of oil consumption after the treatment.

My question is, is it normal for an increase during the "clean" phase? Will this also occur during the "rinse" phase also? If so, when should I start noticing a reduction in oil consumption?

TIA

My truck used a quart about every 1000 mi. when I used RX it burned quart in about 600 mi. after I added oil it made it to 1500 without needing to add more.

also when I cut it open my filter was extremely dirty after the clean phase.

mkr, how is the truck's oil consumption since completing the Auto-rx??

td1 you should notice a reduction after your done Auto-Rx Treatment. Stay with non synthetic oil and as you drive oil usage will reduce. It could be with in 200 miles or 1500 miles.

Use no additives (none) no need for more Auto-Rx. Keeep topping off non synthetic oil if necessary and drive on.

I am still in the rinse phase, I don't drive the truck unless I need to haul, so will be a while before I could answer your question.

my old isuzu increased consumption (almost double) while on ARX, I was actually blowing noticable amounts of blue smoke out the back on hard acceleration.

it returned to normal, (if not somewhat reduced) after the cycles were complete.
