If the VIIs were breaking down, why not here? This is one of the few examples of a engine/oil combo under controlled conditions. In one year, I have had probally 5 different oils in my car, this had ONE over 122k at the same interval. Unique, in my book.

Controlled conditions? We don't know what the conditions were for the past 122K miles in this engine. It's possible that cheap conventional would of replicated these results.

Oh, do you mean conventional oil like this:

Yeah, I'll go on a limb and assert the first engine was "controlled conditions". Known oil and identical interval from new to 122k is the definintion of "controlled" for the sake of this group discussion. Unless you know of any dual-engine vehicles we can have ~absolute~ controled comparison, this is as good as it gets.

This is buster-like logic.

I'm not even going to waste any time or effort pointing out the fallacies here.

Thank you!

Might I remind you, the reference subject is VII break-down deposits in wide visc synthetic oil.

Did you use the same year of pennies, the composition of pennies changed recently, I think 1982 from copper to something else. Would that effect the test if one penny was made of one compound and another something else?

427, The evidence is overwhelming, just look at the millions of engines junked every year. Those run for high miles on conventional oil are nearly always like the conventional oil pic. Those run on quality synthetic are nearly always like the synthetic engine pic.

My extensive experience is similar.

Your type of argument might be valid in a death penalty case, but not here.

The fact remains that a quality synthetic will result in the cleanest internals. ( I can use the word Fact, because there is enough evidence to support such a claim, whether anecdotal or not)

427, you do a lot of reading. I invite you to come mix it up with the boys doing the racing, engine development, teardown and overhaul and junkyard work. There are 2 things required to be successful, knowledge and experience.

Wow, old thread! I think I've only put ARX in M1 and GC for tests like this. But I've tested many pure motor oils, most of them synthetics.
