high mileage oils

are there any negative effects using high mileage oils? do seal softeners cause problems?

But... High Mileage oils are higher in their viscosity range, and thicker oil [by a tiny amount ] goes in the direction of extra drag.
Extra additives may cut the life of a cat converter. I do not believe this is measurable, but it is the direction extra ZDDP would go.
Seal swellers? Once again, probably no harm. But I would not use a High Mileage oil for quite a while - not when new.
