High mileage oil

Ok guys,in general,if you have a vehicle with over 100,000 miles but leaks or burns no oil. Is it pointless to use a high mileage oil in this case? Can the so called seal conditioners cause leaks?

I use it in my work Transit 250, with 33,000 miles, it has had Maxlife red bottle 5W20 blend every oil change since 5K, works fine, no leaks nor consumption.

The High Mileage oils esp Valvoline Maxlife are very well regarded on here. Other products that don't work or cause issues will get bashed to no end which is fine by me.

No, A high mileage will not cause any leaks. A high mileage oil can be good as it can help stop leaks before they form. A high mileage oil also has more cleaning additives to help with engines that had improper oil change services performed in the past.

Note that a lot of the high mileage oils are SN/GF-5, and intended for use even on brand new vehicles. MaxLife is dexos1, in the appropriate viscosities, for that matter. However, I wouldn't be hunting for a high mileage just because you hit a certain mileage, unless you're addressing an issue.

I have two cars at 150k and 190k miles and I use European formula Mobil 1 in them. Not High Mileage oil -- I find it unnecessary and pointless.

If one would get a leak would you go to High Mileage oil to try to stop it? At 150K+ miles some see High Mileage oil as a preventative measure. Your cars will probably go the same miles with either.

Well I like Valvoline MaxLife really well so I use it in my fusion that has no oil leaks or consumption at all with or without hmm oil.So if you especially like somthing about a hmm oil go for it even if you don't really need it. Another example is Quaker State High Mileage. It still has a little extra zddp in it. It use to have quite well bit extra so many people used it for that reason not necessarily because it's hm.

I bought my Explorer with 150,000 miles.

The previous owner used Kendall oil.

I never used anything but synthetic oil since purchasing this vehicle.It now has 200,000 miles+ and I've officially retired it.

It's developed electrical gremlins,and other age related issues.

As said most High Mileage oils are now SN rated and many meet Dexos spec. I use them as the extra additives help for many of my customers that like to go a little to long on their oil changes. That and they cost about the same now.
