The wife & I will be going to Hershey, PA in August for our 5-year anniversary. Anyone have suggestions on places to see & things to do?

We haven't nailed down the hotel yet so I'm open to suggestions here as well. Hershey Hotel & Hershey Lodge are too expensive. We have looked at Hawthorn Inn & Suites in Lancaster, Wingate Inn in Harrisburg, Homewood Suites in Harrisburg, & Springhill Suites in Hershey. Any horror stories we should know about?

Any good restaurants that we must eat at while there? I imagine there are some good hole-in-the-wall places that we should visit.

Don't eat a lot of chocolate before you go, it will be better if you abstain!

I'm about 2hrs away from Hershey Park. It's a very nice area. The Hotels you mentioned are fine. The park is clean and the people are decent. Your not to far from Philly if you want to try some of the good restaurants in the city. Philly was ranked #3 in the country for best restaurants in the nation.

If you're into trains (and wife doesn't mind) Lancaster is not too far away. There's the Strasburg Rail Road with steam train excursions and across the street is The Rail Road Museum of Pennsylvania. Lancaster itself is interesting, there are lot of Amish folks so you see horse & buggies on the road and farms being worked with draft horses.

Not too far is the Rough and Tumble Engineers Historical Association in Kinzers, PA. Large display of antique stationary gasoline and steam engines. They have a great event called the Thresherman's Reunion in August, everything running! Not sure of their hours, look them up on the 'net if interested.

Thanks for visiting Pennsylvania!

I was just out there to goto the park on the 5th of July. My girlfriend and I stayed at the Holiday Inn Express in Elizabethtown, PA. It was a very nice hotel and the Continental Breakfast is good too. If you will be there for a few days I recommend on making a trip to Middlesex, PA and going to the Middlesex Diner. Really good food! They have about anything you want....I reccommend the French Onion Soup. If you are into Shopping you have the outlets at Reading/Lancaster and also the Plaza and Court in King of Prussia.

Hope I helped =)

The Wingate Inn is very nice. I've been to several meetings there and it is always well kept. The Lancaster Host is also very nice.

I would rather stay in Lancaster. Does anyone know anything about the Hawthorn there? I stayed at one in Orlando & it was pretty good. Wingate Inn is my 2nd choice.

We will definitely enjoy the Amish, etc.

I didn't know about the Rough and Tumble Engineers Historical Association in Kinzers. We'll have to look it up.

Thanks for the tip on Middlesex Diner. I'm sure we'll at least make it a point to go there & look at the menu. I imagine we'll eat there then.

I'm not really into traveling to the large cities when driving on vacation although it is tempting. Unless of course it was for a baseball game.
