I am currently running Mobil 7500 5w30 in my Hemi 5.7 with 5000 miles on it. I have heard that Dodge is now using 5w20 in this engine on the 05 models. I was going to switch to GC on the next OC but was wondering if I should stay with a thinner oil like Mobil 1. Thanks

I had a Hemi for 6 months. I was running Amsoil 0w-30. I'd probably use a 5w-20 to obtain better fuel economy if possible. Lot of choices out their. Do an oil analysis and see where the 20wt gets you.

UK, If DC didn't spec 5W-20 for YOUR year Hemi and they didn't "back spec" it like Ford did, then I'd stay with the Mobil 7500 5w30. If you have to change your oil every 3,000-5,000 miles for warranty purposes that oil should give you good protection for your engine and for your wallet

Stick with the 5w30. DC did not change the specs. for the '04 model.

I have a buddy who had the "Hemi Tick" in an '04 he changed his 5w30 out for 5w-20 fixed the tick, no more valve train noise.

Just a few minutes ago I commented how I thought my truck's Hemi engine was hard on oil. I do not have any UOA, but from appearance and smell my oil is ready to go at 3000 miles. I am currently using Motorcraft syn-blend 5w30.

I now have just over 2k miles on my 05 Hemi and the "tick" is getting louder. I'm thinking that it's telling me to dump the factory fill. I will be pouring in some Royal Purple 5w20 this weekend.

Dump your oil ASAP if you still have the factory fill.
