Okay so I've had this Lenovo Z565 laptop for about a year now, and other than me accidentally killing the motherboard (power cable into a USB port will do that, don't ask) it's been great.
Well, I hated the broadcom 65mb/s wireless adaptor that it came with because it was horribly slow for pc-pc transfers. Well, I purchased a Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6230 from amazon for like $25. I put it in, and get something I didn't expect
"Unauthorized wireless network device detected, remove device and reboot".
come to find out Lenovo likes to put whitelists on their BIOS for network cards for stupid reasons. After looking around for a bit I was able to find a modded BIOS that removes the whitelist, as well as opens up advanced BIOS options. Only thing was, the BIOS version it was based on was a bit older than what I currently had, oh well, no big deal right?
Well it fixed that problem, but it makes a new one. The laptop works fine, no question about that. However, above the keyboard there are some touch buttons. The two I care about are "Mute" and "Smart fan" the fan in this laptop at certian speeds is pretty obnoxious. It's not a high fan speed, it's the pitch, it's a very shrill, obnoxious tone. Previously, the smartfan button fixed that and it was nearly completely silent while temps remained well on the good side.
Since this BIOS update, none of those buttons work anymore. They don't do anything, and they don't light up when pressed. Under the advanced BIOS options, there is a thermal related settings, that include the lower and upper CPU temp, hysteresis, and PWM at certian temps. Which would be great, if it remembered the changes I make for anything except hysteresis. Not to mention even if I wanted to go back, or post the most recent BIOS to bios-mod.com to get the whitelist removed, Lenovo doesn't post BIOS downloads on their website. I'm extremely annoyed with this. Overkill, do you have any ideas for me?
