2005 Honda Odyssey. Had VWB in it for years switched to PP and after a few months I have small drops of oil on the ground. Likely Pp cleaning well and removed some gunk over an old seal that acid ate up. So here we go. Any chance pennzoil high mileage will help and more importantly can moving to 5-30 help and not hurt? What about all that talk about the oil pump and other parts like Vtech actuater needing 5-20 ? Any advice is appreciated.

So don't worry about the 30wt vs 20wt? Recommendation of a standard oil? Gtx? Pennzoil?

The EXL has ivtec with VCM. More than likely its a leaking oil pan, they used Honda Bond without a gasket and they are known to leak at around 80-100k. If its got more than that your doing good.
HM oil will not help this leak and sealers can worsen the issue. It an easy enough job to reseal these, pan removal is easy once you disconnect the pipes.

Believe me a small oil leak is the least of your worries with this engine, depending on the mileage you can expect spool valve failure especially if it was run on conventional oil and at a minimum the rear engine mount.
Never use an aftermarket mount in these cars OE only and its big money.
5w30 will not bother the vtec or vcm systems nor will 0w40.

I would go the 5W-30 HM oil like you first suggested. It's a ten year old Honda, 5W-30 will work fine. Infact I would run 5W-30 even without a oil leak.

Here are the PQIA HM tests.

GTX is the thickest 5W-30 oil tested, Pennzoil is the second thickest and has lots of Moly plus the highest TBN, Valvoline MaxLife is very well respected in this application and has the lowest Noack volatility. Any of these three are worth considering. See which you can get at a good price.

Trav you know something about this I can tell no already had to deal with the rear mount and the sides. Also new AC and sliding not door latches not to mention power steering and AC mixer valve. Anyway I appreciate the advice about the oil pan. I suppose I could just leave it until it gets worse. It's currently 3 drops per night.

Try Valvoline MaxLife SynBlend or Pennzoil High Mileage. Doesn't really matter if you do 5W-20 or 30. Stick with it for a couple of oil changes, you should see results.

That's what I'd do. I'd try either MaxLife Blend, Pennzoil HM, or M5k HM.

I wouldn't worry about that too much. I would clean the area with brake cleaner and use a UV dye to see exactly where its coming from.
If its the pan forget it, a valve cover gasket might be worth messing with. The rear crank seals on these and many newer engines are a fluoroelastomer seal and by nature resist ester products (and almost anything else for that matter) used as seal swellers aka seal conditioners.

The cooler running front seals are usually HNBR or polyacrylate and does respond to HM oils. Knowing the engines sealing materials makes the decision on what if anything may be effective.
These engines are known for the occasional few drips but rarely develop into full blown leakers.

I would snug up the bolts on the oil pan and see what happens. One needs to fix most oil leaks rather than hope an HM oil will fix it. If its a gasket its unlikely HM oil will fix it. Only a seal. And some cases synthetic oil cleans around a seal and at that point it might leak a little, but as time goes on, the synthetic oil will condition the seal better and the leak may stop.

i had great luck with 5w30 Pennzoil high Mileage although i dont use it in the winter because i find it a little thicker than the yellow bottle.

I have found every time i use synthetic oil in an old engine it leaks so i prefer the yellow bottle in the winter and the PHM in the summer.
