Help settle an argument. Are US Navy personnel ever considered "soldiers"?

It’s only silly to those who have never worn the uniform. If you believe they are “expendable” - then you fail to value human life or their service. Perhaps both.
The actions of people that send young men into conflicts that make no sense tells me they treat them as expandable assets. Not sure why your issue is with me for pointing this out.
I’m not the one sending youn men into the harms way for oil or to protect corporate and private interests.

You were the one that chose to call the thread silly. An offensive remark.

Then you made a political point.

Also, offensive. You do appear to agree with those politicians that believe our service members to be expendable.

I don’t think this Thread needs any more of your participation.

Years ago, sure. Nowadays, almost everything is contracted now, at least overseas. Every major DFAC in Iraq was Halliburton/KBR. The only time cooks actually cooked was small little COPs or outposts in the middle of the desert.
The current Secretary of the Army, the Honorable Driscoll has publicly stated one of his directives is to get away from contractors, and specifically field service reps that repair Army equipment in the field/ forward deployed.

SecArmy has put word out he wants NCOs to be able to service/repair/maintain Army equipment, especially hi tech equipment. SecArmy is looking to COTS databases likes Salesforce to track Soldier repairs, and have a database for all Soldiers to access repair history, and to use a COTS database to do this, and not a proprietary database that takes ten years to design, and is obsolete before it is put into service.

An interesting fact, it is reported SecArmy is only 38 years old (unconfirmed), and has a high tech background. A very different mild than prior Secretaries of the Army.

Aight now Capt...... we have a beef.

Are you saying that we Army fellas are girls? Yall wear white just saying.
No - I wasn’t saying that at all! I was saying that a true professional wouldn’t like to be misidentified, and those true professionals would include doctors.

And soldiers.

And sailors.

But I do feel compelled to point out that both doctors and nurses wear white, by the way…

Says grandma's couch grey!
When the ABU (Airman’s Battle Uniform, USAF digital camo) came out, I was EA to a LGEN USAF.

He was among the very first to get the ABU - and modeled it in his office.

I don’t know what the USAF was thinking with those colors - various shades of muted green? What connection does green have to the USAF? Army, sure, and woodland MARPAT, of course, for those in the field. But the USAF isn’t often in the field, so…

I mean, if we were going to get the majority of airmen to blend into their background, shouldn’t we use the colors of Microsoft Windows?

PowerPoint, perhaps?

😎

LMAO. My senior DI joked about the Navy uniforms, about how they're blue so when you fall in the water nobody can find you :ROFLMAO:

Concrete or cinder block grey? Or maybe whatever hides the best after you've jumped in the ditch to hide from a sniper at a forward air base?

I know - I’m teasing - but honestly that first iteration of the ABU…didn’t really represent anything and wasn’t useful for anything.

I like that, but you are still going to need SMEs. Guys move around too much and sometimes you need a person who can just look at something and know what it is. I agree about the obsolescence part. It makes things difficult.
The SME thing may just be a Navy thing.

Politicians and Secretaries say a lot of things. They also say a lot of things that don’t happen. We’ll see.

That’s fine, but I have.
If someone in the general population calls anyone in the armed forces a soldier, it’s not something to get worked up about. Life’s too short.
I agree with that...but also enjoy a solid Marine correcting others. It's an educational process.

If you were visiting another country wearing an American flag tshirt and someone said “Oh hey, someone from England.” You’d likely correct them, right? You aren’t just gonna be like “Too right you, Gov” and start acting British for the rest of the interaction.

This is just something that is going to happen with humans when we interact with strangers and are incorrectly labeled. It is not unique to the military.
