Help settle an argument. Are US Navy personnel ever considered "soldiers"?

It’s only silly to those who have never worn the uniform. If you believe they are “expendable” - then you fail to value human life or their service. Perhaps both.
The actions of people that send young men into conflicts that make no sense tells me they treat them as expandable assets. Not sure why your issue is with me for pointing this out.
I’m not the one sending youn men into the harms way for oil or to protect corporate and private interests.

You were the one that chose to call the thread silly. An offensive remark.

Then you made a political point.

Also, offensive. You do appear to agree with those politicians that believe our service members to be expendable.

I don’t think this Thread needs any more of your participation.

Years ago, sure. Nowadays, almost everything is contracted now, at least overseas. Every major DFAC in Iraq was Halliburton/KBR. The only time cooks actually cooked was small little COPs or outposts in the middle of the desert.
The current Secretary of the Army, the Honorable Driscoll has publicly stated one of his directives is to get away from contractors, and specifically field service reps that repair Army equipment in the field/ forward deployed.

SecArmy has put word out he wants NCOs to be able to service/repair/maintain Army equipment, especially hi tech equipment. SecArmy is looking to COTS databases likes Salesforce to track Soldier repairs, and have a database for all Soldiers to access repair history, and to use a COTS database to do this, and not a proprietary database that takes ten years to design, and is obsolete before it is put into service.

An interesting fact, it is reported SecArmy is only 38 years old (unconfirmed), and has a high tech background. A very different mild than prior Secretaries of the Army.
