So, this is apparently a very common problem. I've done the basics such as deleting and reloading browsers, cashe, history, ccleaner registry cleaner and the various Microsoft/and other virus and malware scanners.

No faults are no recorded, and given time, it will continue to operate. Firefox is the worst. IE is also quite bad. Chrome has problems only occasionally.

Gaming is no problem and glitch free.

It seems this problem is not related to a virus, but is nevertheless quite common.

Does anybody have any input before I simply wipe it out and re-load windows?

TIA!!

need more information.

without more information.. I'd second your blow up windows and reinstall. Always works.. and windows is always faster afterwards.

at a bare min we need to know what the rest of the hardware in the computer is driver versions etc.

Is it a browser crash? or a computer lockup ie BSOD. Sandy bridge chips have a sort of bug with voltage under low/partial load where the voltage gets set too low for the load/clock and the chip locks causing a BSOD/lockup. You may want to check your voltage and adjust the LLC (loadline calibration) a bit if that is the case.

Is there a software patch for novice/regular users to be able to fix this?

Only thing i can think of is disabling addons or maybe changing the browser hardware acceleration settings (some addons like flash also has hardware acceleration so might want to check those settings and change them also).

And if it is an issue with the browser hardware acceleration, often new video card drivers fix it.

Not as far as I know. It has to be a change in LLC or core voltage in the BIOS. Doesn't mean none exists, I just don't know about it.

Motherboard is an Intel DP67bg. 8G Corsair memory. MSI 560Ti twin-frozr nvidia. Bios and drivers up to date.

Computer freezes. No response from keyboard or mouse. No faults logged. Eventually, it will unfreeze and continue.

Chrome browser is largely trouble free. Firefox is terrible.

Have you checked to make sure you have the latest Bios for the motherboard? I have found the Intel MBs to be a bit finicky.

Do you have another PCI-E video card you could swap in and see if the issue disappears?

No I don't. However, I would not mind purchasing a better video card.

You know im also running W7 64 4GB while running FF, and have the same issue. I thought it was a virus or something!. It will lock up solid, then unfreeze and continue. This is on a Sony Vaio Laptop Vpcw17fx

You are losing mouse and keyboard function like the OP when this happens as well?

Yes sir!, Only way yo get it going is to wait it out, or do a force shut down! :-O If i force power down, when its restart you have to select the "start windows normally" option. It is also on the latest Bios, Video, Sound, Mouse, and keyboard drivers. But for some reason W7 Sp1 will not install.!. Keep getting an error mssg. Wonder if the 2 issues are related?

I assume it also has an NVidia video card like the OP's? (I quickly googled it and it appears to....)

Are you using the latest drivers from NVidia, or from Sony?
