I am working at a ford dealer now and can get the motorcraft oil fairly cheap. I have a 2002 focus with 79000 on her and have been using pennzoil platinum since 49,000. My question to you is would there be any bennefits to keep with the platinum or is the motorcraft just as good! car is 50/50 highway/city. no oil leaks and runs great! What would you all do??

Thanks for helping me ease my mind!!!!

Motorcraft oil for 5000 mi or so oil changes (depending also on conditions). PP good for longer oil changes 7-10k miles. Sort of a waste for 5k mile oil changes, IMO. What are your intervals?

You'll be good with MC for 5k miles. Save the extra bucks and treat your significant other to something nice. How long do you plan on keeping this car? Nice little car there!

My 01 Focus has 140K'ish miles on her and the valve cover at 127K on 3K Motorcraft OCI was silver no hint of varnish. 5K would probably be just fine and no need for additives. At my dealership it is still cheaper to goto local Walmart then buy it from out distributers. Go figure that one!!!!

PP would be fantastic too. If you left it extra long no worries.

How much would you really save in a year? If you run the PP to 6k and eliminate 1 OCI per year then how much would you save? Don't forget the cost of the 1 filter you won't use with the PP.

either or will get you 5K easily, like others have said is kinda a waste to go syn for 5K but if it makes you feel better than do it.

either oil is great!

I wouldn't mess with a good thing. You can drive the PP longer than the MC to compensate for the xtra cost. My .02.

Thanks for the help guys!! I plan on keeping the car as long as I can! I really love my little focus!!

Thank you all again very much!!

I have personally just R&R a 3.0 ford engine that was using PP most of its life, and I had to change the oil pan gasket. so i removed the engine and seen how clean the PP engine was I was impressed. motorcraft oil is cheap and dirty. stick with PP.
if you really want to make your life easier Gary or Pablo or Don will hook you up with the best oil money can buy and their advice is the best I have seen here on BITOG.

Mr Jlube,

If you can get Motorcraft cheap, why bother with PP ?

Even with the $10 off PP coupons, I would still buy Motorcraft.
