Mr. Clean Magic Eraser. Be careful to not scrub the painted surfaces. It works great.

Baby oil on a clean cotton rag. Some folks even use peanut butter!

This works really well. I posted a picture of this some time ago here on Bitog. Only use it for dull black plastic. Magic eraser will make shiny surfaces dull. It's basically a sponge with fine-grit sand in it. Same reason to tape off painted surfaces next to the dull black plastic you want to clean.

It was the only thing I could find that could get nu-finish off black plastic.

Tried the peanut butter tonight with wax that had baked onto black plastic all summer long. It worked like a charm. A little Jif and an old toothbrush, 5 seconds on brushing and it's gone. Wonder what's in the PB that makes it work?

Yep. It'll also make the black plastic look new again.

Peanut oil.

Like dissolves like. Liquid oils can soften dried oils.
