Do you know much about the Toyo Versado LX? Note much info on it though it did get killer consumer ratings on 1010tires. Haven't seen any tests though.

I'll add to my previous post that I'm not really happy with the noise of the Potenza RE950's like others have said. It is mostly noticable at lower speeds. It happened fairly quickly on my car but I think I got a bad alignment when I bought the tires as well.

Nah, not even close to great for ALL conditions. My sister have Exaltos on one of her cars and Triple Treads on another. They got stuck and slid bunch of times this winter.

If he is in AK then Exaltos might be ok, but not for snow they're not.
It's funny how you say you have Falken 912s which supose to be a great tire, and never reccomend it for him;) Actualy these Falken 912s came in first in the CR UHP A/S tire comparison test, and Bridgstone Potenzas 960 came only in 7th place. So maybe these Falkens would be a good choice for original poster. They are much cheaper than 960 as well.

Here is a pic of my Falken 512 with 2 bubbles on the same tire.

Maybe "great" is too strong of a word. But many people have praised the exalto as being a good to great all season tire. And it's hard to know whether your sister got stuck because of the tires or because she was running the wrong pressure. I slip all the time with my dedicated winter tires. But I like to keep them inflated on the high side because I encounter more snow than ice.

I didn't recommend the Falkens because the OP wanted idiot proof and simple. Falkens are a bit exotic and hard to get. Exaltos can be purchased even at Costco with minimal hassle. If the OP had a different criteria, I would have recommended something more exotic.

I'll add more when I get back home, but I would seriously look at a set of Yokohama AVID TRZ. Best bang for the buck bar none.

Been around a bunch of tires, Michelin Energy MXV-4 is a great tire which one set replaced....does everything and more for less than half.

My sister's husband keeps the tire pressure as reccomended by the car manufacturer. It's not very complicated. Just all-season tires won't handle monster winter in WI we just had, regardless of anything:)

As for simplicity point, that could be arguable. You can get this Falkens cheaper online delivered to your door or to mechanic of your choice for free. And a lot of states don't even have Costco or/and Sam's Club. They just opened very first Costco here recentley. It's about 30 miles away. Not too convinient. I have Sam's Club and Wal-Mart nearby, but guess what they don't even offer tire services. Plus you have to have membership!! Which I don't need! So as you can see your simplicity point is highly debatable. I guess you can go to Sears for Exaltos but prepare to be ripped off. That's why Tire Rack and others are so popular now, it's simply became more convinient to buy tires this way.

Yes, we all know that one of your 512's had two bubbles on it. It was a defective tire. It doesn't mean every 512 has this problem, move on. You been showing the same two pics for the last four years. This one, and your A4 in the snow.

Back to the subject. My girlfriend has the Falken 512's on her car. They been great in the rain up here in the Northwest. The only downfall with them is. Their treadwear. Sumitomo uses soft rubber. So you get great traction, but the downfall is. They won't last anywhere near to 360 treadwear rating. They do have a 40,000 mile warranty though.

Did I mention my set of 4 FALKEN 512s that could not be balanced either on the tire shop or the Audi dealer's Hunter. Yeah, total pita and had to be returned, the first and only set ever for me. Cost me time and money, but hey...if Finklejag's girlfriend likes them they must be good.
