Is there such a thing? All my 5 gallon buckets crumble apart in no time. The last ones I got were blue and say 'Lowes' on them. I don't think I got 6 months out of them. I go to pick the bucket up and the handle rips right out of it. I definitely learned my lesson about leaving them outside in the sun. The sun will start breaking them down immediately.

FWIW.....I try to get 5-gallon buckets from sheet rockers. They usually buy the pre-mixed mud for drywall finishes in HD 5 Gallon buckets. I usually ask them to sell me a couple after they finish their jobs..... but they just give them away.
All you need to do is clean up the insides well and you will have some nice white buckets that can handle heavy loads.
IMO...The buckets at HD and Lowes don't hold up long....the sun or no sun. The HD drywall mud buckets are Great buckets for fishing!

Wow, I have a few 5 gallon buckets that are 10 years old. I clean out joint compound buckets and paste buckets. I also keep mine inside the garage, the sun is not their friend.
I saw a Berkley bucket today that was much sturdier than a Home Depot bucket. Cost was about $6 at the local "we have everything" store.

I have a couple of such buckets from engine oil shipments.
That's strange. I have buckets that are many years old and fine. They are from hydraulic fluid from work. I had no idea there were different quality buckets.

Merk, just buy 5 gallon pails of HDEO. You say you like thick oil and you change oil often enough, you'll have a steady supply. You'll just have to clean them out!

The best buckets I've seen are the ones that chlorine tablets for pools come in, although they're like $80 with the chlorine tablets

Stop using the cheap, consumer version. Those generic "buckets" are equivalent to generic "duct tape": Worthless...
Go to a REAL paint store and buy one. I also get them free from restaurants. Sliced pickles come in them. Don't leave them in the Sun.

We have about 15 of them that asphalt tar came in.
Last summer, my dad, brother and I gutted a block house to turn into a garage. 2 huge holes needed to be made as well as an interior (non load bearing
) block wall needed removed.
Those buckets made our lives so easy.. After the bigger pieces were in the dumpster, we scooped up the chunks into the bucket and lifted them into the heaping dumpster. Too bad the door couldnt have been open, but it was already full of drywall, scrap lumber, carpet etc.

Sometimes you can buy some laundry detergent in these HD buckets. Use the detergent....save the Bucket.
