So I hear that Chevy is coming out with a Cruze with a diesel engine. From what I hear the engine has been used in Europe for a while now. Anybody have the skinny on this?

Yes. It has been confirmed that there will be a diesel in the US Cruze for either the 2013 or 2014 MY. Iirc it will be the south korean 2.0L CRD diesel.
Thanks for the link. I will be taking a real hard look at it when it comes out.
^ It's going to depend on the fuel economy figures to see if it makes economic sense. That and the purchase price which will probably add a few thousand over the gas models.
My guess is ( like many other diesel optioned cars) you'll have to do a lot of driving for it to pay off. I still want one though

For a permanent traveler a diesel Cruze makes a lot of sense. Couriers, salesfolks, and others with super-long drives every day will gladly buy a reliable diesel car.

Here in KC diesel is 70¢ more than reg unleaded.

You should read what happens to some VW diesels made recently, and some of the diesels used in Ford F-series trucks.

My guess is that GM looked at all this and took this into consideration.

You should hear about some of the problems that have affected many Honda Hybrids.
Also if you need to replace that battery anytime after the warranty runs out, you will be spending a LOT of money. Many thousands of dollars most likely.

One of the problems with Diesel is availability, not every gas station has diesel because of low demand.

GM already makes ads touting the "42 mpg Cruze", not noting it's the Eco MT version that gets those numbers. Based on my Eco MT averaging 44 mpg since I got it, if GM says a diesel Cruze will get 50+ mpg highway, I'd believe it.

That depends where you live. I defy you to find a gas station in Texas that does not have diesel....and usually at every pump not just one lane. Lotsa diesel trucks here friend.
