If it helps anyone here....
My exchange health care went from $933 a month for me only to $1186 for the upcoming year.

The only issue other than price was it was totally worthless here as nobody wanted to take it. Was the Blue Choice HMO Silver.

I only went to the docs three times this year to get prescriptions ( basic stuff) and paid a local "out of network" doctor out of my own pocket.

Today I called my local agent and he said United HC bailed on the exchanges and he can get a PPO for me from United HC for $203 a month.

Every detail is far better than the old silver plan. So shop around.

Yea that and plans change every year. Just because your current plan was a good fit it might not be anymore. So see what has changed and how it affects you.

Mine still works well next year and only went up like $4 a month.

Will appreciate if you can provide more info.

Our employer offered plan is going to be $1800/month, that we rarely use. Plus, its bad enough that a couple of my physicians stopped taking it so I was considering ACA. All I want is cheap insurance should I end up in a hospital. If it comes, will pay out of pocket to my doctors.

The employer can not provide a better option as I am the only one fully insured because of the family. Rest all went ACA. How does one find such agents? What do you actually search for?

John
I'm going to PM you who to call since you are not in my state ( may matter)
See what they have to say. I'm not affiliated with them in any way ( So not posting the # here) but maybe you'll get a great deal.

Personally I have great insurance provided by my employer as part of my compensation.
The posts here are arguments for single payer.
I only hope you all get great health care.

As a Canuck I like threads like this because it gives me insight into other systems. Aside from what I get from my brother and friends that live in the U.S.

It really depends on the pool size and who are in it.

A lot of the common insurances have young healthy patients that rarely get into expensive end of life procedures (hip replacement, late stage cancer requiring chemo or operation, dialysis, etc), many healthy people are already on employer provided and subsidized plan especially those with no substance abuse problem.

When you suddenly open up an everyone welcome plan, you will initially draw in a bunch of people needing immediate procrastinated care, it will get very expensive and therefore the healthy people will leave joining another pool (i.e. after they have insurance for 6 months they will not be excluded for pre-existing condition) with fewer of these patients. It is a competition between insurance group and patients pools. I'll stop it right here before the discussion get political.

It really depends on who else is in your insurance pool, so shop around.

That is sickening! If you try to be productive and work you are charged outrageous fees for marginal care. If you do nothing, you get Medicaid, everything is free including the ride to the dr clinic or where ever.

Absolutely correct sir!
And if you have a bad year you get subsidized, but the next year if you do well, you may get hit with
$10 k from the IRS because you are now making good money! Going private is the only way to go.

Not sure if you are being tongue-in-cheek, but ACA has helped a lotta people.
Just like RomneyCare in Mass, which it was patterned after.
About 20M people got insurance because of ACA.
There are no easy answers, but health care costs will continue to rise.
Most people in America that go bankrupt do so due to medical costs and most have insurance.

I just had 2 joints fused in my foot/ankle and more; surgery was at Stanford Surgical Center in Redwood City, CA.
Almost 6 hours.
Could be a year recovery, in total. I get full pay from my Silicon Valley job.

Big bucks... My cost? $3,000.
I wish everyone had insurance this good.
But that's just my opinion.
