We just got an entire day of torrential rain up in the north half of the state early this week. Grass looking way better now than last month thankfully.
I'm sure there would be some people that wouldn't mind if it would park itself over Lake Mead and just hammer away at it for a while.
Personally, I'd love to have some good high-definition video of the Hoover Dam spillways working again since the last time that happened was 1983.

I was thinking the same thing.
Problem is that parched earth doesn’t absorb rainfall well, so much of it flows away, making floods more likely.
I’m glad areas are getting more rain…. I hope it does more good than harm, and helps them all out. And hopefully some heavy rain actually gets to places that actually need it!

If it goes that far inland, it will peter out really quickly. I remember when the remnants of a tropical storm actually hit Arizona back in the late 90s. At work we had a consultant from Florida, and when I mentioned it he thought I was joking.
Weakening to a tropical storm, Nora crossed into the Desert Southwest of the United States.
Sustained winds of tropical storm force were recorded at Yuma. Although weakening to a
tropical depression as it moved across California and Arizona, the circulation aloft did not
have time to spin down. Strong winds, nearing hurricane force, downed many trees across
southwestern Utah, at an elevations of 10,000 feet and higher. Heavy rains along the
Mogollon Rim closed in on 12 inches in the Harquahala mountains....with numerous locales
reporting 3 to 4 inches...more than many of them normally see in a year. Some lighter rains
fell across the central Rockies, with some moisture making it into the northern Plains. Below
is the track of the cyclone, provided by TPC/NHC.
Hmm, I’ll bet there will be a number of downed power lines. Downed power lines -generator purchase ban? Perhaps they’ll revisit that law in 2024.
The Imperial Palace (now The Linq) parking lot/garage always flooded during downpours, as did many roads and neighborhoods. If this storm hits like it is projected to, there will be massive flash flooding despite the flood control work that has been done in the last 25 years.
I'd expect a lot of flooded vehicles in Vegas. Unfortunately there will be some Darwin's Law annual award competitors here. No matter how many times they are instructed not to, some people can't avoid driving into newly formed lakes and rivers.
I'm jealous. We haven't been hit with any this year. Usually we have at least 2 pass over by this point in the season.
You are so right, and directly behind the Imperial Palace was a real mess. I was always amazed how much water comes down the Western Mountains into the valley.

4" of rain here wouldn't be that bad. There would be localized flooding including some roads, but 4" would be around 10% of what we get in a year, so a little more than an average month's worth of rain.
In areas where 4" is a year's worth of rain, neither the natural drainage nor the built infrastructure will be able to handle it and widespread flooding will be the result. Combine that with coastal storm surge and high winds and I can see multi-day power outages in many areas, which will make things difficult for those who rely upon wells. Hope people in vulnerable areas have a good stock of canned food as well as bottled water and full gas tanks.

I'm waiting on it to hook to the east and come into the Midwest as a blustery low feeding on hot humid gulf air. Suppose to be a 100F here next week they are threatening us with. We get Hurricane remnants here but they usually come up the Mississippi and hook east south of me along the Ohia river.
