Headlight/Fog Light Recommendation

Far from up on the auto lighting products available today. I'm looking to upgrade the headlights and foglights on a 14 BMW X3. I've always like amber for fog lights but I remeber reading some of the newer white light bulbs apparently are "better." I'd like to have fogs that are solid in snow for those times you have to turn off your headlights to see during a storm. I do drive often in VT and NH in winter.

I presume you have the H7 halogen lows not the HID system correct? Halogen fogs I think show H8.

There are factory LED options from higher trims but has the LED lack of heat thing.

I don't know if yours has any glare shield on the fogs. The H8's have a painted end so light is not cast forward for glare.

The Morimoto 2 Stroke 4.0 supposedly put heat inside the housing to get warm enough for snow melt. Not inexpensive but lifetime warranty. I don't know how the H8 would be if no glare shield. Fog/snow need correct beam patterns. In a projector light should be no issues.

Diode Dynamics may have basically bolt in options to replace them. If your BMW doesn't have option to run just fogs you will need to run a new wire setup. I suggest as I do that it's tap with parking light so you can't leave them on but can also run just them.

If I was adding new too do any of that, currently the Diode Dynamics would be my choice. One test I think on IH8MUD maybe the user ran many in Colorado. In his tests the lower SS3 Sport and whatever the middle level Pro didn't get hot enough but the MAX did. The snow pictures of my sons Forte was a warmer wetter snow and the SS3 Sport did melt where other places on front slushed and iced.

Yeah if Diode Dynamics offers something, not a bad choice. I've got a customer right now that wants the "Max" in a '13 GMC 2500. I think it's insanity to put a $700 set of lights in a factory plastic valance that he's already ripped apart once while hunting.....but it's not my vehicle or my $

My secret weapon in flat light over CO passes is yellow safety glasses (I typically wear Jacksons). But that's DAY time. Not sure I'd like them after dark. Any skier is well acquainted with flat light....

Theretrofitsource is a good place as well as ecs tuning. I'd highly suggest projector fog, driving lights as they are more efficient and have better controlled output. I've been looking for the "Japanese sunset beams" that catz had years ago but they're very pricey. I'd almost suggest a hid fog/ driving setup.

I change my HB4's for auxito 3000K LED back in 2022 and they use passive cooling are excellent
