Head gasket job thread- overhaul

And... It's done. Bought a new gasket, scraped some of the old gasket that I missed in the corner the first time around, put it on, and voila. Runs just great now. Drained what I could out of the rad, managed to get about 5 quarts of G-05 in, and a about a quart of Distilled water. The rest of it was tap water that was still in the block, there is no real way to get it all out short of tearing everything apart again. I figure in a few months I might drain it again and add more. But it runs great now.

Don't worry to much about the tap water, your future drain and fill plan sounds good.Glad you got this sorted out.

Also changed the oil with the Havoline 5W-20 and Puro Classic, will be on there for 1-200 miles. The Supertech that came out was like coffee with a lot of cream and sugar. The filter was covered in nasty white goop from all the water.

Went for a little drive, 25 miles long, varying from stop and go city driving, to 75mph cruise on highway. It runs better than it ever did before, smooth, much quieter (no exhaust leak). So far, so good. By the way, we want to get the A/C vacuumed down, we bought an $8 vacuum pump, what do we need to hook it up to the system? There is a $50 hose kit, but the guy at advance said that if we take it to jiffy lube they will vacuum the system down for free. Anything to this?

An $8 vac pump is not going to pull the deep vac needed for an AC system. Find someone that has AC experience and have the job done right. FWIW--Oldtommy

Here is some pictures of the head, and of the intake manifold before/after cleaning.

This is the orifice tube when we took it out.

This is the Supertech filter and some oil from when I changed it earlier. This had been when it hydrolocked.

The sad truth is the mile hydro-lock probably 'steam cleaned' some more carbom out of the engine...LOL.

Did you ever get that TB clean - good job. Glad to hear your litle 'J' is running better than ever!

In addition to the constant fan running (Covered in my other thread), there were are few CEL, and one that keeps coming back. The two that are gone were something about the EGR (I'm guessing because it was full of water for a few minutes), and coolant temp signal. But the one that keeps coming back is a "idle speed high", which is rather odd, it doesn't seem any faster than usual, and the AAP code reader couldn't do a "freeze frame" today, for some reason. I'm going to go over it, but the IAC is plugged in, anyone have any ideas what could be causing it to bug out?

That would be my guess. Go over the vacuum lines and make sure you didnt crack a line or miss one.

Runs great. Got the A/C vacuumed down at Jiffy lube for free, they checked for leaks, pulled 15 minutes on it, came home, recharged, and it is once again meat locker cold. Awesome, so glad to be done with this project. I'll check the vacuum lines tomorrow. I also wonder if the UIM gasket is fully sealed, if it wasn't would that cause it?

As of tonight, it is completely, 100%, absolutely, finished. Somehow the Upper intake manifold gasket got broken on installation, so it wasn't sealing. Replaced, and it just works... A/C works perfectly again, no more CEL or pending codes.. Runs fine. I'm so glad to be done. Gonna change the oil again on monday with the same stuff, and go for 5-6000 miles on that, and hopefully not have to touch it again other than gas.

Also, fixing the IMG fixed the odd cooling fan staying on all the time, now it only comes on at the proper temperature, or with the A/C on.
