With all the talk of how great Shell Rotella-T 15w40 is for our bikes, I don't hear much about Mobil Delvac Super 1300 15w40. How do they compare?

Anyone? I guess what I am asking is Mobil Delvac 1300 15w40 as safe to run in motorcycles as the Rotella-T?
Similar oil.
The talk about Rotella is often because of it being available at Wal-mart at a good price.
If the back of the Delvac jug has the gasoline ratings on it, SJ, SM etc. you are good to go.
AFAIK, only Rotella is JASO rated though.

i have run rotella in my bikes, i have a lug of delo 400 and delvac 1300 that I will run eventually.
you have the different crowds that run rotella, delo, delvac etc.. all good oils to use. Believe the delvac is the new cheaper one at walmart with recent price increases, at least around here

It worked great for my bike.

Delo has a pretty good dose of moly, if that concerns you. I've used it with no problems but some may avoid it for that reason.

I use Delo in my '83 Suzuki. It had a steady diet of Rotella for some time, but about 2 years ago decided to give the Delo a try because it was a dollar cheaper at the time. I find the Delo allows a very slight (quieter) shift difference than the Rotella, but otherwise same-same.

What?! Rotella is super-juice ... it has properties no other oil can approach. Why, just yesterday I noticed my bike's miles per gallon actually went negative*! That's right ... Rotella caused the creation of gasoline in my tank!

A point of clarification ... Shell tested Rotella CJ-4 15w40 against the JASO-MA friction test and found it passed the test. From other analysis it appears Rotella met those requirements as well. So Rotella appears to meet JASO-MA ... but that's something different from carrying the rating. It's not official to the best of my knowledge.
My guess is Delvac CJ-4 would also meet JASO-MA if it was tested.
Delo might or might not ... again, the moly thing is the key differentiator there.

I agree with the above posts; the "big three" in HDEO are hard to beat. I'd even add Premium Blue and Tection Extra to the list as well.
Consider for a moment that you can currently get Delvac 1300 with a $3 rebate per gallon until the end of the month. You can get a whole gallon of Delvac for $7 (after rebate), versus some boutique "premium" m/c oils for $7/quart. That's four times the expense for the fancy oils! Are you getting four times the protection with RL, RP, or HD oil? Doubtful - you're probably not getting much better protection at all, and used oil analysis typically show it.
While there might be a few exteme circumstances that would/could justify the expense of racing oils in racing bikes, the VAST majority of bikes today can last (nearly) forever with one of the good brand name HDEOs.
Consider for a moment that you can currently get Delvac 1300 with a $3 rebate per gallon until the end of the month. 1st: old SRT 15w40 (ci-4 version)
2nd: SuperTech 15w40 ci-4
3rd: new SRT 15w40 cj-4
4th: delo 15w40 cj-4 le
5th: delvac 1300 cj-4
6th: motorcraft 15w40 (i think this was cj-4)
and of note, exxon superflo sae40 would fit in at #3

Valvoline Motorcycle Specific 10w40 is JASO MA certified, but that [censored] makes the clutch extremely grabby and will *NEVER* be in one of my bikes again. period.

What about Shell Gold? Don't hear too much about that one.
Any off the shelf 10w40 or 20w50 car oil, or CJ rated diesel oils would pass Jaso MA. CI rated diesel oils may not due to the (high) ash content. Just passing the friction part of the test doesn't equate being Jaso MA.
